Well technically he is right... if we use PnP as base.

Shield only works on MM. ( PHB page 278 )

Now since we are in DDO, and since 3.5 is... well mostly rewritten into something else for DDO purpose... Anything is possible, and he actually could be wrong.

Since I never bothered with that kind of nitpicking and rule lawyering in DDO I cannot tell who is right and who is wrong in truth...
