i liked mabar, but i kinda like i just have to do quests as usual to get something from that event instead of boring spawncamping (or afk until its open then afk in dragon).

If you are into champ chest farming in EE haunted halls mimics are CR 57 from these chests.  Not terrible but a bit of an uptick in resources and time on these farms (unless you opt out with repellent).  Make sure your running high acid resist and adjust according.

I'd like this event more if it wasn't forced "fun".

I can't pass up the chest rate on Ju-Ju zombie farm in EE haunted halls, up to 10-16 chests every couple minutes, subsequent renown, plat gain (inventory fills up fast with level 33 chests at this rate), remnant (I know, nothing worth a damn to buy currently) gains are hot.  Runs are going to take me a few mins longer beating these down unless I find out whatever items are added besides mabar loot end up being garbage, then I'm opting out of this.

Mimics are ... arbitrary. The grind items are a taunt to anyone who ran the grind for Mabar and saved on the mistaken impression that their grind would still be honored, and then a reminder of the other event Turbine borked beyond repair--Anniversary Cards. The rewards are Mabar's. Except fucking randomized.

It's like whoever conceived of, designed, and then implemented this event, at every step was ripping mad at everyone who plays DDO, and wanted to punish them for having fun.

According to "The Sev", they are redoing Mabar to be the Fall/Halloween event. The mimic event was originally going to replace Mabar, but they decided to make it the anniversary event instead.

BUT, it all hinges on believing what "The Sev" says.  We'll see.

The incompetence in that studio is beyond belief. 
They kept the random cards for "mystery" trade in stupidity as well.
So many said, "no that is stupid" - it is not fun, but those stupid muppets ignored the players as usual.
They have a seriously declining playerbase and they risk drive more away.   This event is not going to bring people back, so the best they can achieve is neutral, which is unlikely because a lot of people said it was a bad idea.
So sad.
