I remember spending every weekend for an entire summer in there with one of my old old campaign groups.

I loved it nearly as much as Ravenloft, or doing the old "tournament"  modules.

This thing Turbine did, disappoints in a big way.  I expected buggy from what I'd heard... I did not expect boring.

To be fair.. I would probably do sexual favors for staff if they implemented the entire run of SSI's AD&D gold box games *sigh*

I would love that too… But I doubt it will happen until DDO goes to maintenance and the player base gets a hold of the dev-tools/ base code to un-fuck Turbine's mess.

Pool of Radiance and Secret of the Silver Blades… Oh the possibilities…  Undecided *sigh*

I would say it's just too fucking long. They should have broke that shit up a bit more than they did.

They could have made each temple a quest in itself - with features/mechanics appropriate.  By breaking it up, you make the quest small and specialised to a few encounters.  Quality - not quantity.
This was an opportunity lost.
Haven't given it much thought, but the following quickly come to mind.

Some underwater content for the Water element zone?
Mobs appropriate to that element.
Sahuagin, merfolk, Elementals, giant squid/octopus or even some water related aberrations like the Aboleth.  That could be a nice challenge.
Instead we get a big gelatinous cube and some water eles.  Wow.

Or how about the air element temple being truly 3 dimensional and requiring flying between eeries like in the Reaver zone.  The mechanics exist.  Use variable gravity, even make up/down change like in Deathwyrm.  All the mechanics exist.

Or the fire elemental temple being perpetual fire (shallow lava floors with random deep pockets) and doing constant background damage.
Fire creatures are well covered in other content.

Earth would be a series of carved tunnels - I would use complex shapes of up/down left right to make visibility limited (instead of fracking doors every 5metres).
Have surprise encounters as earth creatures emerge from walls/floors/ceilings (like in the Doomsphere quest in Orchard) where the zombies emerge from the floor.

Le Sigh.

I just hope this crew DOES NOT touch any more content and destroy it like TOEE.

Only the first playthrough is long. Both parts can be done in 20-30mins, part 2 can be a bit longer due to the randomness of the Node gem and/or you get a shitty element (earth/fire).

If you want to get tomes, Id say part 1 is much easier and faster. But I will agree that the dungeon is boring.

Do I simply not understand how "awesome" this quest is because I never played it as a PnP module?
It seems like a pretty boring dungeon. Granted I didn't explore every single nook and cranny in the place, but I did complete both parts on EH solo (because I'm a terrible player) and I am left feeling very underwhelmed. VERY underwhelmed.

So it it just that I don't have grey pubes and am not old as shit to enjoy this update?

Agreed.  I've never played ToEE in pnp nor did I ever play HH.  I really liked HH but thought ToEE was
boring as hell.  I mean, when you can't even be bothered to get to the end of a quest you've never played before, the writing is on the wall.

I actually got bored enough to check out mother forums and was surprised that most people that chimed in thought these quests were fun. Almost nobody thought the loot was any good.

I know this is subjective, but are they playing the same thing I am? It seemed to me the plan from Turbine was:
1). take portion of ToEE layout and stick butt loads of old mobs in each room.
2)Make sure there are plenty of archers to make this time sink take even longer.
3) create a mechanic at the end fight of part 2 that is really annoying so all those duped cakes get spent.
4) give crap xp.
5) make loot as horrible as possible so no one wants it.

If this was their plan, then they did great.

It was a whole lot of empty, with a touch of instant red alert encounters.

Classic run it once and never look back.

Loved dying from massive lag because a few hundred orcs decided to spawn in one spot.

I quite liked it.  Ran EN with two friends.  Took... I don't know, five hours?  Six?  Explored every room, destroyed every vase.

Not sure I'd run it again a whole lot - I hate farming at the best of times, and this loot is garbage.  XP isn't good enough to demand it (I hate Spies too, but...), and the levels are stupid.  This should be 16, not 7.

Anyway, it sort of felt like baseball - you're not really there for the game.  We were just hanging out and drinking and chatting, while killing shit in the background.  The way fun should be.

They could have, but then that would have been just as stupid as what they ended up doing.

ToEE was for character levels 1-8. They should have turned Hommlet into a new starter area, included a slayer area up to Nulb, with the first part of the adventure being the moathouse. Incorporate the NPCs, maybe some side quests related to them, while dropping story hints about the Temple.

The temple itself shouldn't have been that hard to convert, it's all right there on fucking paper. Yes, it's huge, but you're supposed to be able to shut yourselves up in a room to rest and heal if necessary. They should have included ways to brace doors, and have temp shrines (like those in DA). If you use x shrines in a certain amount of time, temple reinforcements spawn. They should have also turned off DA for it.

This whole area should level a character from 1 to 8 or 10 thereabouts.

But they didn't do any of that. They made one big, boring dungeon with shit loot (ignoring most of the loot from the original) and a shitty, unnecessary crafting system. It pretty much killed any desire I had for them to convert any other old modules or settings. They'll just fuck it up.

Well the RX-78 ( I had to dig up the model ) with the shield and laser sword  in front is Obvious...

I have two friends that are Complete Gundam Nuts.
( buying models ordered from japan every time a new one comes out and he can afford it, and the other can give you the model of a Gundam [ along with the pilot and the anime serie it came from ] just by looking at a leg or an arm  )

and in case you wonder... yes one of them was a Mechwarrior/Battletech GameMaster...
