I bet you 10$ that it was a dead giveaway that the Ghallanda server needed new hardware when they discovered a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine of February '83 on top of the floppy drive. Meaning this server was long overdue for an upgrade.

The IT tech who made this amazing discovery was awarded 'Employee of the month' immediately and got a free pass to go play Pac-Man whenever he wanted for the next month.

Personally, due to the ammount of Avian Carriers available just outside I'd go with RFC 1149 ( https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1149.txt )  aka IP over Avian Carrier.
it's even got it's own QoS with RFC 2549. ( https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2549 )

as long as you remember that the latency is huge ( counted in minutes instead of milliseconds ), the system has been proved as being reliable.
