FFS, now I know what really happened to the API server, they simply couldn't find it!

Honestly, you have never seen public exchanges DDF and Subscriber Frames...

There's nothing scary ( beside the fact that you might get your feet entangled in some of the cables and pull them out ) in any of the pictures...

It's just how things are done in the IT world... The Telecom world is... worse... because we do it bigger and with smaller cables.
Take barkabout yellow wires... quadruple the lenght of the row, triple the height, and you have a subscriber frame for a public exchange...
replace the yellow wire by a single swisted pair [ red/white ] wrapped at each end.

detail :

full fucking view:

Trust me, unless you have the documents to find your way into it, you will not find the correct cable... Been there, done that, spend a fucking afternoon follwonig two pairs through a building during an afternoon ( because the fucking document was wrong ).
From the outside it might look ordered, but in fact it's a fucking mess, worse than the yellow spaghettis barkabout posted.

I see :

- 1 Unplugged blue cable... actually two..
- 1 unplugged yellow cable
- 1 unplugged pink cable
- 1 unplugged red cable
- Orange Cables going everywhere and being messy...
- 2 Blue cables that go where they shouldn't ( on an orange shelf )

At a guess the Orange cables are trunks... the rest go to servers or workstations...

Now I tried to do a switch cabinet like that in our testbed room at work when we moved in the building 9 years ago...
It took less than 1 month to get an unfathomable mess, and the people in charge of the day to day operations of said test bed sent the whole color scheme through the window after the first year.

You cheat that Multimode fiber. As a standard in Telecom Fibers comes into two colors : Yellow or Orange. Yellow is for Singlemode fiber anbd Orange is for Multimode fiber.
( ok there's other colors, but they are not that common : Blue and Slate is Multimode and Red is Single Mode, but they are quite rare. )
With Fiber you need to be careful, there's bending rules to follow ( otherwise you break the fiber ) so the cabling has to be kept relatively clean.

Then you would have loved when MFS ( now Worldcom ) told us that all the zip ties in the cabinets ( precabled in factory ) had to be replaced by threads...

The cablers were pissed, my boss was pissed as he had to call out of vacation people that knew how to knot cable bundles, I was pissed as I was overseeing the whole joke.

Yes, I had a subcontractor rewire and replace all zip ties with velcro (zips were crushing the cable)and you can't replace easily since we are not allowed to abandon in place.

Those "OCD" pictures looked like some of my rewired comm rooms - although the color codes don't look correct (classification levels, DMZs, PoE, voice, video, horizontal / vertical interconnects are all mixed together). But it looks close enough I wonder if one of my subs did them.

... Glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.

The official reason was because you could get hurt by the zip ties...  and they didn't want to be sued by people getting scratched by putting hands where they didn't belong....
( especially in France where an employee can't really sue for that kind of thing... now is said employee had been exposed to asbestos or radioactive elements that's another matter... but any Frog Court would have dismissed the zip tie joke )

Yes, that is actually a bad hazard when people were not cutting them flush with dikes. I had to fill out forms for employees slicing their hands and arms that way.

Diagonal cutting pliers.

Side cutting pliers and end cutters also work.

When I was first dating my now wife, she was horribly offended when I casually mentioned picking up some large dikes on my last trip to the auto parts store  Grin we still laugh about that when I get out the pliers and cutters toolbox.

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.
