ID farms were miserable albeit effective.

A half-dozen boss Vaulties donated generously with real money to my classroom during a fundraiser in May 2015 to get poor kids books to read. I won't forget that. They know who they are, and they freaking rule.

I use the rings for heal amp at lvl 18-19, but that's about it.

Maybe the hat from Wrath for soloing Fleshmakers.

+4 tomes from the raid, long ago when they were the tops.

The sets were pretty decent, once upon a time.

GH clicky necklace is still useful for some.

Doh, I forgot about clickies too.

GH necklace and Jump belt were always useful.

For the quarter ended March 31, World of Warcraft had 7.1 million subscribers, down 2.9 million from the 10 million subscribers it had at the end of 2014."

Some great timing, I must say.

I guess WoW really is better than DDO at everything including losing market share and customers. I don't think even Turbine could lose 30% of it's subscribers like that, even with Severance-pay in charge. Sigh, poor DDO, always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

DDO is a huge pita to learn and the online resources someone like me comes to expect simply dont exist, so figuring out the game becomes more of a chore than anything else;Thats not a learning curve, its an exercise in absolute frustration.

It wouldnt be so bad if the people in game were helpful or if Turbine didnt constantly screw with the rules, or if some helpful web resources existed besides a outdated and underwhelmingly confusing wiki, but thats not the reality.

This^
Largely the "people/wiki not helpful" is Turdbin's fault - too few people and too many changes for the wiki to keep up with - but the result is a crater in the support base for new players.

Starkjade wrote on May 7th, 2015 at 12:48am:
You wouldn't believe the amount of helpful guides and resources that were lost when they changed the forums over a few years back.  It's not that people don't want to write out a blog or a guide, it's that they don't want to do it again.

Yeah, and even for the things that managed to survive, you can't tell what's relevant and what isn't.

The forum change was like burning the Library of Alexandria, as far as this game goes.

If they take the time to study and learn how to close this gap, they are rewarded by Vargina and Severance using a bulldozer to implement new systems when a little finesse of the old environment would have been sufficient.

It's frustrating as hell for many people who may not want to be the best players, but would like to get more than 10% of the kills in a two person group.

Again, you've hit the nail on the head. I play fantasy games to get to be a hero. I don't care if I don't lead the kill count, but I want to feel I've contributed to the win. I want to feel like a sane and reasonable player would invite me back out of self interest rather than charity.

Power creep and spreading the player base makes that less likely, which provides a strong disincentive to group, and removes most of my motivation to buy anything.

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Heh, yeah.  I actually ran Amrath for fun last life, and got some belts in the chests and was like, "Shit, I had forgotten these even existed, and how many of them there were!"

I personally feel like rpg developers across the board have been simplifying and dumbing down their games (even Bethesda with the most recent skyrim).  Ddo for all its flaws is still a great game with endless possibilities in character building and ways to beat a quest, that is something WoW does not have.  Ddo is an older game though with very few subscribers so I am afraid it's days are numbered as each update adds less and less content due to lack of staff/funds.

I will jump on a ddo 2.0 if one ever comes out, but in the meantime I will ride this train to the end of the line.

I think at this stage in the game calling it, "power creep," Is like saying the UK "crept" over the Zanzibar Sultanate in 1896.

I tell you what, I wish we had just a fraction of their player population, but I really prefer the way the landscapes and environments look in DDO compared to WoW.

Myhistorygets fuzzy at this time of the evening, but I thought we shelled them mercilessly ( no relation) and then after 20 minutes and their ensuing surrender, charged the impudent little bastards for the exorbitant cost of the ammunition expended.

Empires were much classier in those days

Yes, btw, I am on ghallanda with my two active characters and in a guild, though for the most part, they and I dont jive but the buffs are too good to pass up.
I figure if I stay and eventually figure out how to be a decent player who isnt a liability to play with, Ill ask to join another, better guild.

Flav and I are both in the Spellswords guild on Ghallanda. Look us up.
