MajMal's idea was the best I've heard: Flag sploiters as targetable in public areas. A tangible punishment that still allows them to access the game, and is reversible in time. Fuck, it could even be worked into a bounty hunter system as a PvP expansion. Most of the exploits come down to a matter of which way customers want to enjoy the game. Why should Turbine deny themselves access to that potential revenue?

Couldn't agree more.

I wonder if you could just build this into the game - such that "crime" actually pays (like as exploits, rather than fixed, are allowed and tagged) but there are costs associated with it in the form of being the target of open season.

It'd be funny for about 30 mins and then you wouldn't bother logging in again.
You'd get grief killed everywhere and could never get to wherever you were trying to go.
You'd likely just give it up as a bad joke and leave anyway.

New in the DDO Store:

Potion of Dignity Restoration

Allows one dirty exploiter to not be killed in a public instance for 1 hour.

Only 395 Turbine Points.

They lose the access to the forums and get labeled Banned  Cheater on forum profiles, yes.

But they also lose their playing account, including all associated playing accounts, and those accounts are still searchable in-game, via-PM, on factions lists, where they are publicly labeled "Banned Cheater" meaning that it lives on, as long the game lives on.

For instance when someone thinks, hey I wonder how my old lancemate Frank the Ferret in the FRR is doing? and then looks him up? it will still list Frank but it will also list that he is "Banned Cheater".  So merc groups will have any busted cheaters listed publicly on their forums and in game musters.

Pretty big step away from the "never speak of cheating" rules they had and that Turbine still has.

See the difference from what you are suggesting is a win-win? You may think it's a hoot and start a new pilot on a new account, but you will have to drop cash (lots in MWO), build up pilot ranks (same), and all your old dropping buddies might not be keen to have you around anymore.

Russ Bullock owner and chief pilot of PGI is a terrible human being, barely passable coder, incompetent businessman, transparently dishonest PR man, but in spite of all those flaws he has Balls the size of watermelons, he just doesn't give a fuck, or thought to future consequences.

The fact that he has made a insane amount of money in the past three years even while his company has been publicly shamed and roasted by it's customer base for failing again and again practically guarantees he feels free to act like this.

Personally I don't know how I feel about the Public posting and shaming of cheaters, in MWO or DDO. But I am very interested in the process and how different kinds of companies handle it.

And PGI and Turbine are in the same field and have the same type of niche costumer base yet are so different, which makes it really interesting.

Cordo, what's the point? If you ban someone from the game, they are not going to feel any shame from having their former characters labeled "cheater" or any label you can come up with, like "dirty scumbag antichrist!" or "impotent loser from loserville!"

Oh, why not? you ask.

Because they've been banned.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.

That depends - can you hit back? If you can do damage in return, it might actually prompt a number of good players to exploit!

of course you won't be able to affect them.
it's not intended to be full on PvP - it's intended to be public humiliation.

I'm not Cordovan, it looks like you people tend to see him every time someone you don't know posts.

I guess I made a mistake by setting up a account properly with a decent icon, and the rest. I tend to use the options available when setting things up and the "I love drama" thing seemed lame. I'll do my best to spell poorly and swear more in the future.

Added Edit: Fuck.

And having been here since yesterday, you were able to form this opinion in one day?

I didn't say your Cordovan, because I don't believe you are.
But you are familiar with the Vault, and I don't your hear just to chew the fat with the boyz.

Off the top of my head I recalled at least a couple different threads over the past few months where various posters have accused others of being Cordovan.

I've been reading threads here on and off since last October,  after a co-worker pointed me towards it.

Up until now, I hadn't read anything that prompted a reaction on my part that merited the trouble of setting up a account.

This did,  the huge shift in tactics of dealing with cheaters by PGI seemed like a great topic to get feedback about from a unaffected and removed but established community of unrepentant haxors.

Let it slide if you want to stay profitable, in fact, if they promoted duping, I would buy a heroic and epic otto's box to re-use stones, but right now, I will not  Cheesy

They should make it an enhancement, like Fletching.   Grin

Actually, how about this... you know crafting boosters.  What if they sold an elixir of 75% stone re-use?  One shot, 495 TP.
