I don't think you learned anything, but I learned quite a bit about you, and I'm disappointed.
I learned that rather than redact content you found inappropriate for your site, you chose to replace it with your own words that were pretty inflammatory. Had you not tried to spin Hammertop's post, very little of this would have happened. What you describe as Hammertop's "personal attacks" were not personal attacks at all and were simply calling out the people who were violating Jerry's whimsically enforced CoC at Hammertop's expense.
I learned that you choose to double down on "I'm RIGHT, Dammit", rather than evaluate your mistakes dispassionately and change the course of your actions.
I think a lot less of you now, Geoff. All of this was avoidable, and none of it had to happen in the first place.
You were wrong. Regardless of whether or not anyone else also acted wrongly, you need to admit and accept your own mistakes, and not in the snide manner that Jerry "apologized" for his tin foil hat remarks.
Well said, and I feel the same.
Geoff, I don't visit your site often, but I liked it and liked that it was there to energize and engage new players, I thought it was good for the game.
I even agree that people have gone about airing their complaints badly, I'd have been annoyed at a demand when a polite request would have sufficed. But I would have thought you'd take the high ground, for the good of the game if not for your reputation.
But now Hammertop is gone, and Factor smeared, your "lessons learned" a travesty.
Your accusation is based on an IP address the two shared, did you check to see if it was a known TOR or VPN exit point? Did you check to see if anyone else had that IP in the past? If both of them have consistently used that IP? And even if they absolutely were the same person, is dragging it back to the main forums and getting a whistleblower banned helpful or right or appropriate?
I hope I'm wrong, but it sure looks like you let petty vindictiveness guide your hand and did more harm than good to a game you claim to love.
