So, it looks like the settlement in the lawsuit last September has lead to Warner going ahead with plans for a Dungeons & Dragons Movie...

http://deadline.com/2015/08/dungeons-dragons-movie-warner-bros-hasbro-lawsuit-12...

There may be cause for life in D&DO yet...

OK, maybe not life, but certainly cause for retaining the license.

I have the previous movie and the two DTV sequels... and really what a waste of a good IP...
Even Turbine hasn't screwed it that badly.  Roll Eyes

"finally" .. gosh, so those early attempts were a dream after all.

“This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property, so instead of that, we have decided to go with a script written by David Leslie Johnson (“The Conjuring 2,” “Wrath of the Titans”).”

Sounds more like they're excited for a new opportunity to shit on D&D in exactly the same way it's traditionally been shat on. The non-creativity of it is the extra, special fuck you.

His background looks to be mostly horror - Walking Dead Season 2 as well.
Might we see a dark DnD, instead of an over-acted kiddy flick.

It all comes down to how this movie was pitched - what is their target demographic - teens or adults. Then the IQ level it was written for (pls let it be 3 digits unlike the previous).

Obviously Peter Jackson and JJ Abrams were busy.    Sad
You don't need to write a new script boys - you have a 100+ potential scripts that just need conversion.
Do a Driz'zt/Artemis series or Dragonlance or any of the many good series of books telling an Epic story (I always thought the novels around the Time of Troubles would make a decent movie).

The most broken epic PL in the game is the ridiculous AC buff from martial PLs. But when you include all the inherent benefits from reincarnation, the thing is above the roof. The benefit from TR was supposed to be minimal, but now it is game breaking. start a new character and you will feel, you will get raped in heroics.

Personally I think lower heroics on new characters are harder than Legendary Elite content on a character with good gear and has all destinies farmed.

Wow.

Have you EVER gone to Law School Feyn? Have you EVER been asked by a United States Senator who is now the Vice President of the United States to write a paper just for him on a particular topic of Constitutional Law for his use as a Senator? Have you ever been asked to help a very notable Harvard PhD turned Constitutional scholar with his very-well received book on Legal Philosophy and Constitutional Revolutions? Have you ever been offered a job as a Deputy Attorney General BEFORE you even graduated Law School?

No? Then STFU you fucking amateur.

If they do even a halfway decent job they'll get my money, I thought Wrath of the Dragon God was a decent flick so I'm willing to give another D&D movie a try.

I happily paid to see most of the recent comic book movies, which I enjoyed despite mediocre scripts and ham acting. It doesn't have to be a Work of High Art to be fun, a beloved subject lets me overlook a multitude of sins.

Plus, I have to cast a movie dollar vote to balance someone in my family, who shall remain nameless, insisting on seeing 50 Shades of Grey  Smiley

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

I'd prefer Dragonlance, but if they are doing FR, they should do Drizzt.  Elminster can't be the lead protagonist and they don't have any other characters that have a built in audience.  Also, Salvatore's early work was very heavy on sword play and melee/thieves and low magic, for the most part, which seems to play better to mass audiences better than high magic fantasy.  The companions of the hall start out as ranger, barb, fighter, fighter, rogue.  The only caster in Crystal Shard is the villain.  Then, the main antagonist in Streams of Silver and Halfling's Gem is Artemis Entreri, who is an assassin.

Could Vin Diesel play Artemis Entreri?

Dragonlance, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, etc.  would make the best movies.

I found the direct to TV D&D movies better than the one with Marlon Wayans.  Go figure.

No, Vin Diesel is far too big and bulky to play a lithe and cunning assassin.  Don't get me wrong, he's a total badass.  Cast him as Seravok and I'd have no problems Tongue.

Entreri needs a more subtle approach.  He's supposed to be fairly small and finely honed.  Just can't see Vin in that role.  You need the body type of Jason Statham with the nuances of Aiden Gillen a la "Little Finger" to properly portray him.  Who that might be...not sure.

Unfortunately, the Director of that one is attached to produce the new one.
