How does Deception works? (Read 7890 times)

	I am an oldtimer. I know that Deception used to stack with Improved deception back in the day. And there was much rejoice... Anyway, now I see things like Deception (some number). So.. how does it works? If I equip upgraded Ring of Lies ( Improved deception), Backstabber Gloves (Deception) and start shooting things with Divine Artillery (Deception III) what exactly is going to happen? Will all of these be procing separately, thus stacking? Or will the Deception III override all? If I start using different weapon, will Deception and improved deception stack again? So many questions....

Here's a thread discussing it, but not conclusive https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/413173-Decepting-Deception AbyssalMage indicates he has two deception weapons, golden guile and ring of lies and believe they work together. There is some discussion around stacking vs separate proc too. The rule I remember is that item/weaps will stack with same type of deception. So the example above should work, but never tested it. That's all I could find for now.

	Didn't this get discussed recently here in a Build section thread? Think I remember someone saying that highest per category wins, so Imp Dec on item, weapon, enhancement was way to go. Not sure there was any solid data behind it or not, can't recall where I read it and a lazy search didn't find it.

	from my experience just having im deception item and deception item and high rate of attacks like repeater user, monkey, tempest or acrobat ensures u ll see SA damage most of the time when soloing. not speaking about bosses showing u ass and thinking where the hell are u:)

	Like Gringo, I find high rate builds will keep SA up pretty much full time if I mix. TBH Imp Dec on an item seems to work well enough and free up weapons/AP for other things, as is my wont.

	It has been that way for awhile. My monk when he hits level 20 spends the next 5 levels with the imp dec handwraps - motu 14 ones, and then a deception item on some piece of gear. Vast majority of the mobs stay turned around the entire time - it is pretty hilarious.

	Long list of things I wish the actual programmers could tell us like this. They are the ones (hopefully) who actually code the mechanics, so they should know (in theory), how things work and why. Would be so nice if Turbine ever released a page on all these things that keep being questioned.

Well, Deception is like this: Turbine tells you one thing and does something completely different while still denying they did anything but what they told you they would do. If you complain about something, they ban you. If you don't complain, they figure they didn't piss you off enough so they do even more retarded things. Anyone who is intelligent enough to honestly run a game company has left a long time ago. You are welcome.

	I've always found weapon + gear stacked. Whenever I have just one on and not the other, I notice a drop off in deception "procs".

Even if the programmers told us how it should work, it likely still would not relate to how it actually works because ..... stuff is hard. Look at the exploits they create and can't close.� They don't do it intentionally, but the way things interact causes unexpected problems. Deception could be like this. It is hard to test, and it is possible different generation items work differently too.

Also, to the OP, I ran my repeater Mechanic (back when Mechanic wasn't cool) with Golden Guile and some Deception weapons (Don't remember which, maybe the Polycurse Dagger and a lootgen Xbow?) and I rarely looked a mob in the eye. Used that set-up right into Epics. Still worked great.

I found that out when I decided to do barbarian life - just to mix it up for giggles. I did more as a barb yes. I still won't let go of a good old fashioned monk.
