At some point, Sev said no more Iconics. Not sure why - doesn't make any sense to me. I thought Iconics were a good way to commercialise DDO. Not necessarily a wise one, but a good one to get money. I can only imagine the fun an newb player has running an Iconic in level 15 quests without understanding any of the mechanics.
Agreed - Aasimars are a better option if you're going to have a race. already have all the character models and animation in humans.
I agree with the Iconics position here. Not a fan of the premise personally, but I have seen more than a few of the precious new players running around as Iconics. Some of them are in my Guild. It certainly gets them up and running without the agony that diehards like myself went through starting as 28 pt. gimps in Korthos.
As for Aasimars, iirc, they are +2 Wis +2 Cha with no penalties and a few minor abilities. So start them all like Drow at 32 pts and recycle the human models. Maybe add some particle effects to simulate the "celestial" nature. Seems like easy money to me... Even if they made them Iconic, they could start with Paladin or FvS as a class, and most of the racial tree could be stitched together from Morning Lord and Exalted Angel with minimal effort.
Then again, we don't have working Racial trees for the races we already have...
So just more Pipe Dream wishful thinking
