Their iconic goals for the game seem to be the driving factor.  That being the case, they should have released gnomes with a human or drow iconic caster class.  It's not like they HAD to release an iconic gnome with the gnome race.

A Red Wizard of Thay human iconic or a Archmage of Sorcere Drow Iconic would have been cool.  The drow one would play nicely with the recent FR storyline about Demogorgon being released by drow wizards into the underdark.

All good stuff. TBH the races is one of the few things they've got left I'd shell out for, and I'm not even fussy about new graphics. Just adds more flavour to building which is 50% of what keeps me here. They could release what you've said, racial elves, dwarves, orcs, etc. as well and I'd likely buy them all.

If they release a dwarven iconic I would expect it to be Duergar with +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, and –4 Charisma.

I'm not sure what halfling race would get, but I imagine best class would be monk.  They'll probably make them barbarians though.

I'd like to see them get away from needing to make the skins too different for the Iconics.  To me, the Iconic is more of a "well known in lore" build.  They don't have to be physically different races from the base races.  Just a specific faction.

Humans for example could be:
Harper Bard (or Ranger)
Red Wizard of Thay
Order of the Yellow Rose Monk
Tribe of the Elk (Icewind Dale) Barbarian

None of which would need different racial skins.  Maybe slight modifications to hairstyles, facial hair and such.  But custom armor would be more important.

For me, personally, the PDK would be better if it was a regular human appearance.  It makes me not want to play one, except for the IPL.  I find the Shadar-Kai to be similarly limiting.  The Bladeforged, I enjoy and the Morninglord is so close to elf it doesn't matter.

You all know I'm sure that I feel Svirfneblin should have base class either Cleric or Druid.

But I've just come up with another problem of giving them base class Wizard:
Illusionist and Necromancer are total opposites!
In 2nd Ed. A Necromancer couldn't even learn Illusion Spells and vice versa!
Gnomes are Illusionists first and foremost - In multiple Editions {Both first and second} they couldn't specialize in any other school OR become Wizards other than Specialist Illusionists!
DDO basically requires that Fleshy's be Pale Master!

So the Iconic Svirfneblin Wizard will be anything but Iconic as a +2 Wis Based Gnome Necromancer!

Main Characters by Server - Cannith Jelina, Sylveria, Enochpagett, Lieuk, Larystessian, Molineux. Sarlona Keltenn, Franq, Athiina, Nyszsa, Curleag, Nalpheyn. Khyber Tynecastle, Athenion, Argo Clievelund, Bjorkalina, G-Land Hassannavid, Tannadice.

First, Flesh casters are not required to be PM.  There's this thing called Cocoon.  It works really well and allows any class/race combo to self heal with reasonable reliability.

Second, as we have seen with Bladeforged, PDK, and Morninglord, people think nothing of LR'ing out the first level and making whatever the fuck they want.  So there's no real requirement to be a wizard at all.

Third, DDO is only loosely based on D&D/SRD at this point.  It's like the Pirate's Code in Pirates of the Caribbean.  It's more a guideline than actual rules.  Also, you are mixing first and second edition rules (about Gnomes being illusionists) with racial stat modifiers from 3.5 edition.  You are cherry picking rules from different editions and leaving out conflicting information.  The game isn't based on 1st or 2nd edition anyways, so those rules are irrelevant.

I'm not excited about gnomes.  Let alone a deep gnome caster.  But your arguments are weak.

Going back to the IPL feats, we've got PRR from pdk, fort from BF, dodge from shadarkai, and positive spellpower from sun elf.

If I had to guess, something like stacking spell resistance or MRR would be likely. Not entirely sure whether that's a good enough reason on its own to do a life or three as a halfling with a gravy stain on its neck.

They can't do everything with Faerun, they have their hand tied by how Hasbro/WoTC split the IP between them and Neverwinter ( among other things, there might be more splits ), and by who has the rights to what.

Stuff like Red Wizards of Thay might actually be owned by the creator of the campaign set up there ( forgot the book name ), and WoTC/Hasbro can only use it with his/her approval. ( the older it gets the more muddy the IP is... and in some early books it's muddy enough that it's almost impossible to reprint them without the agreement of 4/5 people ( that might moved on to other stuff or died ) on everything )

Just look at the mess the Dragonlance IP is : WoTC/Hasbro can't do anything without the consent of Weiss and Hickman. Weiss and Hickman can't do shit without the agreement from WoTC/Hasbro. A lot of the Faerun stuff is also like that.

That's also one of the reason ( maybe the main one ) why they went to a new support world for 3rd Ed, they made crystal clear that the IP of the world that won would be bought by WoTC/Hasbro and it's creator would not have any rights left over it. ( beyond having his name one the books )

We just got MRR from Warlock PL.  I doubt they dip there again.  If they go for a caster feel, I'd look at something similar to the Sun Elf, but more illusion focused.  Maybe +1 to enchantment DC?  We have +1 to conjuration from Cleric and +1 to evocation from Sorcerer.  The Spell Resistance isn't a bad thought, but almost nobody worries about SR.  I doubt it is going to move the needle.

Fair point.  I was just saying that the Iconic "races" don't have to be actually different races.  The iconics, to me, are more of a specific class/race combo that is well known in lore.

I could see the active feat being a temporary DC boost, the mechanics are already in place and they're lazy enough to just copypaste it over.
You're probably right, MRR isn't something I'd expect. Maybe a +3 stacking SR as the passive (might make that drow occult slayer build work), or even a spell pen option. Either way, seems like it'll be a flop.

Edit: as far as illusion spells go: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Weird and a bunch of spells to emulate other schools, originally designed to bypass the specialist wizard rules.

Of course, instakill spell, so it'd be fucked before it starts.

I'd like to see REAL Arcane Archer: arrows imbued with arcane spells in addition to their physical damage component!  Finger of Death arrows, Magic Missile arrows, etc; spells are released on impact and affect either the target or the AOE where the arrow strikes.  Fuck it, expand it to all damage spells, arcane or divine: divine punishment arrows that add one stack per arrow.  From a player dashboard standpoint, you'd be able to pick one spell every 3 caster levels to toggle through (i.e. @ lvl 12 you get to toggle 4 spells) and you can switch the spells selected to you toggle list only at rest shrines/in public areas.  This would rock pretty hard, and would be one of those "nerfed immediately after release" type deals, but it would be awesome to see actual DnD features introduced and implemented in DDO (for a change.)
