Insightful spell focus not working?

Pulled an astute +7, spell focus +3 to all spells, min level 17. Equipped it but didn't get the spell focus bonus. Is it not applying or not showing? Finger DC was 46, so killing everything at level anyway.

Any ideas on how I can test this? I play the game, I don't try to understand or act to understand how to determine what's bugged or not.

If you were already using a necromancy focus item spell focus won''t stack. otherwise it is probably bugged

test:
1) unequip all your gear
2) hover over your Finger of Death and note the DC
3) hover over a different spell, say an evocation, and note the DC
4) equip your Astute / Spell Focus item
5) note the DCs for FoD spell and evo spell

optionally
6) start equipping your other items, while looking at the DC
7) check for messages in the combat log about shit not stacking

Generic spell focus items don't stack with school specific spell focus items.  Both are classified as an equipment bonus.

You can have an equipment bonus, insightful equipment bonus, exceptional equipment bonus, quality equipment bonus, sacred equipment bonus, and profane equipment bonus.  All can be school specific or generic.  But you can't stack school specific and generic of the same type.  That's my understanding of it.
