You really have to question the wisdom of DDO giving it's players a link to site listing all the other fantasy MMOs they could be playing.

Best thing they have done for their players in years.

I wonder what it says for the poll that DDO, with a player base a bit over 10k, is leading World of Warcraft, with a player base just under 10m. Warcraft leads in players by a factor of nearly 1000:1 and has 2/3 the votes?

So DDO has about 10 employees left, and each can vote once every 8 hours. Assuming they don't get wakeup calls in the middle of the night to vote, that's 20 votes per day by employees, toss in another 40 dedicated fanbois gettign "special consideration" for their votes, and you've got more than 1/2 the votes explained. Sounds about right  Roll Eyes

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

not that many :

- Cordovan
- Severlin
- Kookie Kobold
- Vargouille
- Coco<whatever>

and that's about it. Add maybe a backroom guy too keep things running at night and you have all the Devs for DDO.

I figured the GMs and customer support guys would have to vote too. And SeverancePay has a secretary, right? And don't forget Glib and Fernando, they're still sucking blood from DDO, aren't they?

I voted for Ddo.  I hope it sends more players to the game for the remaining time it has left.  I've played ten years and really don't have time to play anything else.  Maybe Halo and Cod/battlefield some with my military buddies, but that's it.

So yeah Ddo, for I don't have another comparison really.

Acuracy in The Vault ? that would be new...

But I'll agree that I missed a few, so in the end 10 is not that far off.

That'd make for a sustainable business model, if the head count is that low.

don't forget the datacenter cost, the net access cost and a few other opex cost... though most of them are probably shared with all the other online Turbiune Games ( and spread over accordingly ).

But yes, with 10 people on DDO and a few more shared from other games, with opex costs shared with the other games the business model can be kept for a long long time before having to cut off people and go to maintenance mode, even with the number of people that play DDO nowadays.

Salary is typically 50-60% of your overall expense in a cloud based software venture, like an MMO.  If you know the head count it is pretty easy to extrapolate the entire budget.

Nothing strange, people in WoW are occupied by multiple things to do, and even if they're bored with wow they can play some shitstone from the same launcher as wow, while ddo players have pretty much nothing interesting to do in game, so they must find some activities.

LOL, good answer  Grin I'd definitely rather vote in a stupid poll than clean my inventory again.

She works in the store/commerce group with SC_Trader.

I would suspect that several of those sorts of folks are shared between DDO and LoTRO.  Possibly same with Artwork crew.

It's not surprising DDO is doing so well in that poll.

I have gone out and kicked tyres on a bunch of MMOs and even fantasy games that weren't RPG genre really (like whatever Diablo is) and nothing has kept me coming back like DDO.

And fuck me, I've tried to quit this shit.

It only points to the fact that with this IP and Campaign setting, and the wealth of material in the splat books, that DDO's failure to thrive is purely lack of talent and/or competence on the part of the Turbine staff.

The D&D property should be a license to print money, but it isn't. So clearly the blame must lay at the feet of those executing the strategy. Seriously, 10 years in Eberron and no Shifters and just NOW they're rolling out Gnomes (gnasty, gnarly, gnashing gnomes...)?

I'm willing to bet just the posters on the Vault with the dev tool kit could build better content and fix more bugs than this Shortbus riding crew could manage. Or has managed.

I voted DDO. Fuck it... It can't hurt.

tl;Dr: DDO is still better than most MMOs, and that's just fucking sad.

Some of us did, with less... *glance at the several Mb of NWN Code sitting idle in the corner of his HDD archives* and with a shorter dev cycle.
Now it's true that the NWN server wasn't able to support more than 60ish people connected at the same time before going all wacky, so the there was less areas to explore.

QFT.

And even now WB could save it if they made a clean sweep of Turdbin management.
