Cordovan    It has never been against the Community Guidelines to say Hi Welcome. It is only against the Community Guidelines to say it in a way that denotes derision or is used to insult someone's idea.

This is the type of control freak that has no other control in his life and likes to screw small animals because they can't put up a fight. Seriously, Fuck Cordovan. Fuck Severlin, Vargouille & Steelstar.

Fuck the DDO anniversary.

i only recently stepped through to this side of the nerdgate so i could use some explanation...is "hi, welcome" really not allowed as a post?

i can extrapolate the idea of that being annoying and insulting but do we really just assume its meant that way?

shouldnt we have at least a couple moments each day, while our moms are heating up hotpockets and before we double check that no one has shaken up our 2ltr of mountain dew, that we can say "good morning" and "hope your mom's cancer goes into remission" without anyone getting insulted?

LMAO!

Hi Welcome
Internet meme started in the Dungeons & Dragons Online MMORPG first and then refined (mostly in form) in the DDO Forums.

The definition is hard to quantify. Some would call it a "slam" or some sort of "snarky" reply. While that can be true it is much more subtle than that. It's meaning is more of a feeling than anything else. How can one possibly define Love adequately? They can't, of course, and likewise, no one can adequately define Hi Welcome

Form: Just to review the form quickly, it should always be written with a capital H and a capital W. No punctuation is permissable either. It should always be written - Hi Welcome and no other way. If you're writing it in another language (and assuming the language has capital letters), only the first letter of each word should be capitalized and again no punctuation is used. The lone exception to the "only the first latter in each word is capitalized" rule is for the Chinese form not written in characters. In this case Ni Hao HuanYing is correct. This is due to a peculiarity of the Chinese language.
Here is one example:

Someone (most likely a n00b or a known forum jackass) has just given a long forum rant displaying a lack of experience, social adeptness, and most of all...intelligence.

You reply with: Hi Welcome

In this particular case it may mean, "Allow me to welcome you both with my literal words and with an active display of how much you fit in by being tone deaf, dumb, and uncritical of your babbling myself. Because anyone able to engage your arguments would rip them to shreds, the most sincere welcome you can get is from someone unwilling to do so as demonstrated by their simple vocabulary and punctuation and seeming lack of thought put into the response."

"Hi Welcome" originally started a greeting.  Very benign.  Common when greeting new players on the forum who indicated it was their first posting or they were new to the game.  Or used to greet an old friend in a more social thread on forums.  Also used commonly in game to greet people who joined your party.  But it quickly morphed into a sarcastic comment akin to "You must be new here" or "How do you not know this yet?" in threads with players who were clearly not new.  And then took the next step to becoming a dismissive way to call someone a noob or a dumbass without risking an infraction.

It was still used in the original manner by some, but the prevalence of it being used as an insult caused a ban to be issued.  Jerry is not being 100% accurate in saying that "Hi Welcome" has always been acceptable if used in proper context and tone.  It was policed to extinction.  I'd say that the rules may have been relaxed since they stamped out the inappropriate usage.

Now "Hi Welcome" represents the flagrant disingenuousness of Turbine and its shit tier frontlinesmen. So Cordo-stain can interpret intention and read the subtext of posters in the forums?

How about when we just recently had the whole "Shut the heck up" debacle when his cronies were telling people to eat a dick? There are still blatant examples of insults and trash talk subversive or not all justified by the interpretation of the community guidelines.

Sadly we got a sack of shit head case making these calls just for the sake of stroking his ego since all he's got is his bronie Twitch phonies stroking that micro helmet buried under that cola swollen barrel gut of his.

Well, well, well... coming back to this game after a 3 year hiatus playing GW2, first of all Arenanet's forum policies make the DDO forums look like the vault (which I didn't think was possible...), second as far as Hi Welcome is concerned, it's a dead meme that is pointless to explain or bundle any panties over... "You had to be there" pretty much covers any and all aspects of it's usage.

I always liked this definition best.

Do not try the patience of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner, holographic demons and invocation of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things.

The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

You will be happy to know I am teaching my kids your phrase. I tell them, "when someone says something stupid or is acting naive or says something they should already know, say "Hi Welcome"".

I explained the whole reasoning, gave it tone and tenure.

I used it in an example and they nailed it. My 12 year old is always sarcastic so this is right up her alley.
