First : most of the armies in the world are profesional armies ( there's less and less countries where there's conscription ).
         So the Soldiers knew before hand that it could happen. It's part of the job description.
         
Second : Modern Soldiering is the result of millenia of rules, codes of conduct, and ways of doing things ( even if it soesn't seems so ).
             Soldiers are murderers, in the sense that they kill human beings. But they are murderers. Once again it's part of the job description.

Third : Families with people in Military understand ( most of the time ) that they can loose their loved one. It's part of the job description.

Fourth : There's things worth fighting for... Think the French Foreign Legion is still in business despite the fact, that it cannot recruit Frogs.
            In other words : There's people out there that think it's worth to risk their life fighting for France, and they are not even French.
            ( they will be French once they served 15 years... but there's easier, less dangerous and faster ways to become French )

blaming soldiers for being murderers is a mark of very simple thinking. Took ad absurdum, we all are murderers as everyone of us is allowed to kill anyone under certain legal conditions, soldiers just have those conditions wider. What doesnot make them murderers more than us just because being soldiers.

Damn, in last fifty years was more people killed by law enforcement than by state armies of most countries.
