You know it kinda shows how desperate you are, no offense. The fact that you interpret the "carrot on a stick" as a good thing.
No offense taken.
I don't feel desperate. More like "
jaded".
Increasing drop rates benefits players, even if they must suffer the "stick" of lag, therefore it will not happen.

More likely outcome:
1. Collect a ton of info
2. Say nothing about what they are doing with it.
3. A week later make a few changes.
4. Nominal impact on lag.
5. Fanbois praise the changes. Ironclan continues to rant about maintenance mode and license expiring like a dipshit. Most of the game population is too jaded and lethargic to care either way.
6. Go to #1. Rinse and repeat.
1. I'm sure their data shows that they don't need a ton of info, and they certainly don't need it from their customers who are too stupid to understand anything. Accepting it from them is a placebo.
2. Spot on - they won't say how they're using any of the metrics they're measuring, nor will they disclose what they've collected (either the metrics itself or the value of the metrics)
3. "A week later". You're funny.
4. Any effect will be indistinguishable from a fresh server reboot.
5. Spot on.
6. I think rinsing and repeating is unlikely.
Eventually a motivated customer will collect enough information on their own and dig enough into it to identify the cause and post a solution (Abbot 20th list, editing the userpreferences.ini to increase connection speed, double login solved by pre-loading, several others).
