You may be surprised to find out that every update worth of content, and lore is passed by WotC for approval, and in quite a few spots they have had to amend things.

We tend to only hear what WotC rejects, not that they are privy to all of it.

I would be surprised. But not as much as I'd be disappointed. And sad.

If you heard that was a requirement of WTC, then they were ignored.  Because I can take a gate from Eveningstar Caverns to my Ebberon Airship anytime I like.  I can also summon my airship to the Forgotten Realms using an airship beacon.  And I can teleport from FR to Eberron, or word of recall.

You can walk into FR from Eberron, but you cannot just walk into Mordor Eberron from FR.

They also snuck the eveningstar key in, but Re is still right that WotC specifically nixed the original Hall of Heroes concept, where you were supposed to be able to walk in one end from Eberron and out the other end into FR and vice versa.

Lorewise, we are only supposed to be able to travel between FR and E through the Demonweb.

How do we know this?

Yeah, I've heard it mentioned, but it sounds like the kind of thing that could easily get misinterpreted or grow in the telling. Getting back to a primary source could clear things up.

Maybe someday if I'm bored I'll post some questions about DDO on a D&D forum, that should ruffle a few feathers in an entertaining way  Cheesy

I think Lore is great but abandoning convenience for the sake of lore is kind of a kick in the teeth Tongue maybe the key to eveningstar teleports you through the rift? Maybe the Hall O' Heroes is just a less convenient tunnel through? There's room to stick with the lore but keep the convenience.

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

^This

I could see why WOTC wouldn't want airship towers and teleporters in the FR setting, it looks out of place. But why would they want to make it inconvenient to get to? That's a Turdbin thing, not a WOTC thing. Make it painful so you can sell a less painful alternative.

And it's not like MajMal never lead us to believe things that were not true. Maybe he was under orders, maybe he carefully chose words so as to imply something without lying outright, but no matter how you rationalize it, he knew full well that those of us who believed him were misinformed.

So why would we believe this is WOTC's fault? I'm sure Turdbin is relieved blame is falling elsewhere, but I've been lied to enough to want to see a more reliable statement before I drink the koolade.

Totally.

Okay, no. But despite the whole Not-My-Fault-But-I-Got-Paid-To-Do-It thing, and a few little gems like this:

It served his interests.

they will probably congratulate themselves on how long they "kept it going" never able to see that it could have easily managed to keep itself going for far longer if they had just meddled far less drastically and with some semblance of an actual gameplan.

Agreed.

MajMal's loyalty was to whatever project he was emotionally invested in.
