I think it's time we all finally face the harsh reality that we should get comfortable playing DDO for a very long time. Although it was painfully obvious that DDO was at the brink of shutting down and going into maintenance mode forever, it seems that with the release of the new movie (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/dun.../1100-6436348/) WB now has big plans to revitalize DDO.

Don't believe me? Look at all the evidence!!!

Here: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...e2#post5849116 Sev clearly mentions plans not just for future content but perhaps even for an expansion!

Then... we see new DEVs popping up all over the place! (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...e9#post5853712)

Looks like big things will be happening soon. See you all in game!

Leslie West is impressed (and kmack isn't even a veteran):
Quote:
I approve of this thread.

Quite amusing.

Yes DDO didnt have one glory day period, it's had quite a few. Even with all the corporate and dev hands that have been in the porridge.. DDO is still smoking along. It's an undeniable fact.

I would love to see DDO get a push for this new D&D movie. Both are WB products. So instead of whining about Dooom... let's ask WB for more DDO. Let's contribute to the DDO store. And if there is going to be an expansion, lets buy in.

Ten + years later this is still the best MMO on the market in this genre, bar none.

Fran is not so impressed (but that doesn't stop him from working in 10 exclamation marks.  In 7 sentences.  Apparently a period is never good enough for this guy...):
Quote:
OMG!!!!

The Director of Shark Tale and Goosebumps!

The Writer of such utter trash as Wrath of the Titans!

And the Director of the Jeremy Irons abomination on board to produce!

What can possibly go wrong?

Oh yeah - EVERYTHING!!!

Why oh why WB won't you just pick up Saga of Old City or Dragons of Autumn Twilight or The Verdant Passage or The Crystal Shard or Darkwalker on Moonshae or I Strahd or Beyond the Moons or any of the other Novels based on Dungeons & Dragons and do a faithful adaptation rather than continuing to attempt to put out drivel like the last 3 Movies!?

Him and Grace have been trolling the forums pretty hard.  The giveaway is in the very first line:

I think it's time we all finally face the harsh reality that we should get comfortable playing DDO for a very long time.

Rather than providing arguments and then providing his conclusion like a normal post, right off the bat he makes an extreme conclusion and suggests people who disagree with him are not in "reality" i.e. crazy.  It's called gaslighting.

Why does this guy act like that's a BAD thing? I'm hear because I LIKE playing DDO. Knowing that it's going to cling to life for 5 or 6 more years makes me HAPPY.

But this guy says it like he's being tied to a chair and forced to play while someone holds a gun on his family.

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

ddo has a unique demographic such that i would go as far as to claim they have a monopoly on their market

dungeons and dragons as a legal entity has a huge fan base, far broader than pretty much any product that could be textured and modeled into a moneyfarm. show me another platform that has had people playing for

so no mater what dogshit is pushed from the colon, these people have one option. further more, theyve invested far more into this single option than theyd be willing to repeat into a new venture- if there was even an alternative to be had. These are people who are seeking the joys of their past, remembering the good ol days of playing dnd in a garage 40 years ago when they were 15. no matter how good any other game is in comparison, those people are looking for a brand, memories and a ruleset, all of which turbine has licensed and implemented rather exclusively.

no matter what happens, you are gonna desire a pipe with water into your house. you will suck whatever dick is mandated by the state to ensure that fluid flows. DDO is the piping that relays memories of old times to old and anchored down nerds with careers, retimement packages, fat fucking wives and autistic kids, and a ton of time to waste their life's worth of earnings on content (ie: shit).

ddo will run until standard software is incapable of running the outdated code and no one will be competent enough to update the systems, because there will always be old people with no alternative seeking the unattainable pleasures of their youth, fueled by dollars or whatever shit currency they choose to use

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

This seems like it might have something to do with me downloading an android ROM of Dragon Warrior 1 and Legend of Zelda 1 so I don't have to hook up my NES console to play them. Smiley

And you're right. Shiny new games may be shiny but you can't really replace 'the game I played when I was young'.

I don't agree with the whole Al Bundy, mid-life, middle class, suburban dad, homophobic angst thing you have going on there, but the allure of PnP D&D is clearly a driving force behind the loyalty a lot of players have to this game even though they find the developer's performance and choices vexing, at best.

I think that has been stated, with a bit less self loathing, repeatedly on the MoBo's and here.

DDO has, in many ways, persisted (if not succeeded) in spite of Turbine simply on the the strength of brand loyalty to the IP.

There's a site called console classix that has all those old NES games. Regular NES is free. It's a great site for when you get a hankering for the classics.

legit just for a moment , i am able to comprehend, understand and appreciate bambibeer

in fact i would go so far as to say, if this was his contant state of being- i was wrong every time i shat on him

Because in that state he had already shat himself?

There's a site called console classix that has all those old NES games. Regular NES is free. It's a great site for when you get a hankering for the classics.
