Recently I saw one of the delusioned on the main forums bring up PvP development and tried to defend the so called PvP community as a meaningful faction of the population.

Now I do enjoy good PvP in an MMO but due to the required amount of active admin it takes to keep it fun for all rarely does any MMO manage it past the initial launch and first few months. Age of Conan was a good example the first few months it was great fun for most where tactics and smart ability use allowed any class to overcome another within five lvls or so.

Now DDO jumped the foundation its rules came from pretty quick. And we all know what the choice to diverge wildly lead to.

But I do wonder when I waste energy thinking of DDO and the might of been had mobs been built like player characters  as they are in D20 systems be they d&d or not and thus player powers not amped up in so many little ways would the game be more fun for it all with mobs not being sacks of HP and players being even enough in power that viable PvP development could of been worthwhile.

I've played games with heavy pvp where you will be killed with a half second notice on a nearly constant basis.  I've also played games with minimal pvp. I wouldn't say I'm an mmo expert, but I've been around enough to know that DDO doesn't have PvP.  There are people that think that the capture the flag system and the bar fights are PvP, and I made my decision to allow them to keep their delusions.

In order for DDO to be "balanced around PVP" you'd have to have a "balanced game over all" and no one drawing a pay check at Turbine is smart, willing, or abled enough to make that happen at any point.
