so prior to u33 or rather the night before the newest update my 9mnk/9dru/2ftr build was able to use stunning fist but now after the update I can't? It won't consume any ki and all i get is the failed action message

Stunning fist used to work with unarmed combat.  Monks using handwraps and animal forms were both unarmed.  Now, monks are not "unarmed".  They are using handwrap exotic weapons, so they are armed.  Animal forms are still unarmed, regardless of what you are wielding.  Thus, that form probably no longer qualifies.

Stop doing the test while in wolf form.  People aren't saying you don't have handwraps equipped, they're saying being in wolf form affects/removes your equipped weapons.

While in animal form, you will no longer use your equipped weapons for attacking, removing any benefits and drawbacks you would have from attacking with them, but use natural attack "weapons" specific to the form you are in. However you still get most of the additional effects from your equipped weapons:

Edit:  The update changed stunning fist to require handwraps and animal form changes your equipped weapon to a natural attack weapon.  Taken together, a nice FU to your build.  Yeah, it sucks.

Seriously, a person needs to research heavily before trying to understand how unarmed combat works.  Turbine has made it a huge clusterfuck.
