Ah.  So we've moved from thinking it is exploiters to thinking that it is SSG staff creating accounts to fluff up the numbers for a potential sale?

Spitballing potentials is nothing like cementing absolutes.  I can point you to a few books on the subject if you're having difficulties differentiating between the two Wink

Joking aside, which is more probable?  Over a hundred new people spontaneously and simultaneously deciding to try an mmo that's been all but dead for easily half a decade?  Or...something else?  Because I was active on Cannith when the game was getting good press for RL and we saw a trickle of interest compared to what we're seeing now.

My spiteball didn't stick though, btw.  The theory was, yes, I'm noticing guildless 1st lifers in all the low level quests, but are they running them or just parking their toons in the quests?

Pretty sure they're running them now and more people are continuing to join.  About 45% of the who's list today (European morning) were toons levels 1-7 (most of which still aren't in guilds).  Each of those levels had 15-25 people on-line playing vs the higher levels that have like 3 or 4 people playing at those levels.

Having 6 vets on line at level 12 vs 24 new players (that's not counting the vets TRing) at level 2 is weird.

Unless the game is being promoted on steam or something, I'm still way curious to how all these new people are finding out about the game (they still don't chat or join reaper groups though).

Edit - just logged in; 30 new level one toons.  About 7 of them either in the shipwrecked shore or the grotto.

Also, Darcat is still doing something weird over by the auctionhouse in the harbor.

What do those books say about asking third parties vs. asking those involved?

I'm pretty sure they're against active research that takes any amount of effort on my part  Roll Eyes

Shy of PMing people (which seems weird) I have been trying.  Putting up groups instead of soloing (they're not running reaper, the only one that joined got lost, didn't respond to party chats and left his mic on where we could hear him tying through the whole quest), asking in the general chat and in the guild, but not getting any responses.

I finally joined an elite group and asked them.  One just complained about his troubles configuring...everything.  The other misunderstood the question as "how are you liking the game" instead of "why did you decide to start playing an ancient mmo" (they might have been British, makes sense confusing the question "how did you find the game").

Their feedback was way positive though.  They were having fun and were very impressed with the character creation and options (which is one of DDO's main selling points).

I'll keep poking around but it looks like we are actually getting 100 new players (minimum, probably far more) a day now...which if fucking crazy to me.

That clinches it. They're devs.

You're confusing Hand of Death for Gods or A Tribe Called Zerg - that's where the assholes dwell.

HoD is full of nice guys...who mostly really suck at the game.  It's a hardcore newb friendly guild.

But the real question still remains, wtf are you scripting over in the harbor?   Wink

Automatic word substitutions have been a thing on the Vault for MANY years now. Probably since the beginning.

Most people have figured this out and avoid using words and phrases like "Fеrnando" and "first pоst" unless their intent is to actually use the substitutions for comedic effect.

Try becoming smarter. Your time on the Vault will be easier.

Do not try the patience of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner, holographic demons and invocation of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things.

The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

My last TR (week or two ago) I saw a double handful of new players on Korthos. This was Khyber. So not just on Camnith?

Sure sign of the Apocalypse I expect.Of course new players is no guarantee of conversion to an actual paying customer.

Have you thought those might be people doing favor for ddo points?

Or simply ssg is making marketing, a lot of this low lvl range lfm are for normal difficulties.. so might really be new players.

If you are looking for bugs, check gold rolls  Cheesy

Nothing new both MMO have been following religiously the release of PnP books....

when it was the Giant Book we had Giant themed modules, when it was the Demon/Devil themed one we had  Demons/Devils
It was also true for NWO.

Now we have Ravenloft the book, DDO got a Ravenloft themed module, NWO had announced it long ago ( about the same time as DDO ), and now they have it.

Guess what?  I think I hear stuff about White Plume Mountain for one of the next DDO Module, surprise, it's in the April 2017 PnP Book.

Don't forget the Thunderholme module/Tyranny of the Dragons books. I think that was the first tie-in.

And at first they were like "yeah, let's do Anauroch next." and then it was "...oh wait, we have to move on to the next book now."

I'm not saying that it's responsible for this much player increase, but there has been a significant increase in DDO Twitch streaming lately. I know for certain that it's making at least a marginal impact.
