Returning player seeking guidance

I've recently started to play DDO again after a break, and I'd like a little input on builds/current META of the game.
I bought aasimar scourge and TRed into a 6 ranger 9 monk split with the intention of 12 monk 6 ranger 2 fighter wisdom based arcane archer.
While it works, I forgot just how craptastic a bow user is to level, and it's never really been a favorite of mine anyway.
I'd really prefer to melee, but from what I've seen ranged seems to work better with reaper. So my question is, exactly how painful would a str based aasimar scourge pure ranger be to level if I was to switch out the monk levels? Or am I better off just sucking it up till 20 plus where the damage picks up?
I know Monk would be a better option, but I'm not really fond of them despite how amazing they can be.
Not a completionist toon. 2 monk PL, 1 ranger PL, 1 ftr, 1 bard, 1 pally.
Thanks in advance.

Melee are fine in reaper. They're just the most-rewarding/most-punishing. If you wanna go ranged, then shurikens are really the only powerful option atm, and they don't get good till cap really.
Split is fine. Str is fine. If you can LR into 8 monk, 6 ranger, 6 fighter, you can pick up the crit multi from kensai core.
Go tier 5 tempest with Dance of Death. Ignore robes.
Pure tempest is better damage and survivability but the fighter would be a cheaper option maybe.
Dance of death is ridiculously op on higher reaper settings because mob hp scales up so high.

Thank you. Especially for the cheaper alternative option.
