So, Mimic Festival is back... anything worthwhile?

There are only three items (same as last time), nothing is new, and it mostly looks mediocre.

Cloak looks ok-ish, but that largely depends on how often the guard activates. I'm unaware of the rate, nor am I aware of how good Sticky Goo could be. Physical sheltering is worthless when you can just craft Sheltering (which also gives magical), and 32 isn't that great for level 28. The other thing is that Night Revels JUST ended, and that cloak seems to me to be more worthwhile than the Mimic one: +18% dodge and ghostly alone make it useful for ANY build, whereas mimic cloak's only gimmick seems like it's largely dependent upon you getting hit.

Necklace seems worthless, unless a haggle bot is your thing. I can't really see hagglebots being a thing in <current year> though. Maybe the +20 stacking to perform would be useful in certain bard builds? Seems overall way too niche.

Belt by far seems like it's the best of the three given how versatile it is: EVERY build appreciates extra HP and heal amp. Still, it's a belt and there's a lot of good competition, like Battlerager's Harness or, of course, slavers. I guess you could probably find a way to slot it in somehow.

I was taking a break from DDO last time the mimic hunt rolled around so I don't have any of the equipment, and I'm not sure if I really want any of it now. If anything, maybe I'll get a level 4 version of the cloak, since sticky goo sounds like it'd be fun at that level.

What's the general opinion on the items? The oil consumables don't look too great either. Maybe there's something I'm missing with regards to the equips.

I've only found moderate value in all the items.  Of course it depends entirely on the gear options you already have, crafting levels etc etc.

The Goo Guard procs a lot.   I made a level 8 cloak and use it rarely.  The cloak slot competes for RL set bonuses and Mysterious Cloak ml7.  So, for a couple levels, sometimes I wear it and love it.

ML12 Necklace is a convenience item for quest situations wear I might need social skills.

Up to level 7 belt is Con/FL for me.  I could work a level 8 belt in with my heroic slaver's set fairly easily but would only use it till level 10 when I can equip RL gear.

Slaver's + RL to 15 then change it all up for Heroic GS, CCrafted and named @ 15, 20 and 23.

26, 28, 29 are pretty much set although ML 16, 20 & 24 versions of the belt could fit nicely with the current gear I have for some builds with little effort up to 28.

With proposed changes to Raid Loot though I would *only* take the time to trade in my tokens for a ML 8 and maybe 20 if I happen to get the tokens from regular questing and not doing anything close to farming of mimics.

I am grabbing the ML4 Cloak this time.

I made some midlevel HP belts earlier; but I rarely use them. Ravenloft belts are too good.
* Silent Avenger set (thus belt) is a must for light armored melee 10-30.
* Casters also benefit from the tasty stacking spell power belts.
Maybe when I run some medium/heavy armored build, I'll use em again.

Good responses.

The ML 12 necklace was something I didn't consider--probably useful in Crucible now that I think about it. Might work up to trying to get a ML 4 cloak too if the guard really activates that often.

I like the Mimic event and I collect the tokens, but I don't really go out of my way to hit more chests or buy the mimic food.   Since you can save them up, I just do that and wait for something compelling to come along.

I'd argue that the Adherent of the Mists set is better from 10-20. Epics are a different animal and so I'm leaving that discussion to people who run post-20 content.

The Doublestrike and Fort Bypass are nice, but the fact I have to lose the cloak slot to equip the Shadowhail Cloak is a non-starter. Even the Braided Cutcord is competing for the belt slot against slavers items.

I'd rather have the PRR, MP and RP, Hamp and USP from the Adherents set.

YMMV.

I really like the level 4 cloak (and maybe belt) since I use general trash loot until level 10/12. I put it in, and it seems to trigger nonstop. I haven't gotten a belt yet, but if I did, it would only be for the healing amp. 20-30 HP is pointless when I'm sitting at 400 already once I hit level 4 and I'm doing reaper. Once level 10 hits, there are much better belts available, and cloaks it depends on builds, although if it were sheltering, instead of PRR it might be able to displace other items.

For a new toon, I think the belt and cloak would be quite nice.

Yeah the more I think about it, the better the cloak seems. There are no other good cloaks at level, and Cannith Crafting isn't really that potent around level 3-4. For level 3, I tend to use a bunch of the Cannith Challenge loot: Perma Blur at level 3 from the Bracers is FANTASTIC, lesser stone guard from the boots is nice at level 3, Ring of the Stalker is a small boost in DPS, and Spare Hand combat DCs can help since Trip is more consistent in lower levels, and because of Stunning Blow (if you take it that early)

But as far as cloak slots go, there's nothing really good at that level. Goo Guard would be another nice thing to add on. Fort is nice too.

Thanks for advice. Done!

On topic though, cloak lvl 4 is what I use.
Not a big upgrade at lvl 8. And mysterious cloak at lvl 7 from my experience doesnt bring anything dramatic to the table so sometimes I keep the mimic one until lvl 10 (ravenloft)
I do like the looks.

For belt at lower levels maybe. But at lvl 9 its crystal cove hat for hp, at 11 greensteel so again very situational and at 10 casters will go for ravenloft spellpower anyway.

Just grab companion from mimic tokens so people can ban you from their groups.

I'm only a warlock, but according to stat sheet, I have a 80% chance to avoid hits, and blur, and dodge, and ghostly, and yet I feel like it triggers pretty often.

I haven't done a side by side comparison, but I think that the Platinum Mirror Cape is the better option.  At lower levels at least, and probably higher.  It brings some nice insightfuls that aren't available for a while into epics.

To compare:

Level 8 Cloak of the Mimic
Sticky Goo Guard
Deathblock
Fortification +70%
DR 5/Law
Empty Green Augment Slot

Level 6 Platinum Mirror Cape
Transmuted Platinum Guard
Insightful Magical Sheltering +4
Insightful Spell Resistance +5
False Life +15
Empty Green Augment Slot

Ok, forget the Fortification +70% because at level 8 you can get a 100% fort augment.
Forget deathblock because it is available from level 1 cannith crafting or another augment.
DR5/law is fairly trivial.  Useful if you don't have it but most builds have it or better by level 8
And they both have a green slot.

So it all boils down to the proc rate of the guard effects. And I think that the platinum cloak is the better effect.
