Arguing over pointless shit on Main Boards

They've got an 'in depth' discussion on the boards about the card order in Strahd. What does it mean.. blah blah blah.

I chimed in real short and fast that the only concern is for torch pulling.. that's it.

The types of trap here or there is irrelevant... traps are ALWAYS in the same spot.. who gives a shit what type it is? Everybody runs past the Wards, tries to weave thru the spikes, and sometimes they wait for the air jets to be disarmed (sometimes they take their chances and try to boogie past)

Not ONCE in the 30-40 times I've run Strahd on ANY difficulty, did anyone give a shit what type of trap was where... the only constant was everybody gathered before waking up the Hates hiding under the stairs....

My point being it doesn't matter what the placement is... partys treat them the exact same way every time...

Some people actually want to learn the nuances of the game.   I don't think that's a bad thing, even if the metas don't find it worth their Xp/min to pay attention. 

It's cool if the game has depths to explore beyond what the optimal path is.

I'm all for a nuanced game. The nuances should be interesting though. I was pleasantly surprised to find the NPC Escher in one of the side rooms in Ravenloft and have a little dialogue with him. That was a fun little detail even if it was irrelevant to the mechanics of the quest.

And this is a perfect example of something that I am sure whoever came up with it (and also who doesn't really play the game, or run that raid much) thought, "this is cool, I'll change the trap locations based on the card order..." but, in fact, it's pointless and offers nothing to enhance the experience of the raid.  Underwater combat comes to mind...  It would be different if it was a room where you could run through easily if you knew were the traps were, so memorizing card order and trap location would have value.

Absolutely, but even worse and this gets to basic quest/raid design, that particular "area" is set up in a way that you can't zerg it, and it's extremely difficult to know where you are exactly on the staircase.  Do the doors even have labels like in the quests?  And this correlation has been known since day one and I have yet to see anyone post anything about trap position and card order. 

It's a "because we can" feature, like putting an extra door handle on the bottom of a car door, does it serve any purpose? No, but it's there if you want to...  Well, actually it turns out that there is a very small subset of human beings who prefer to live their lives as lizards, not even free standing lizards, fully walk on all fours lizards.  This bottom of the door, door handle is, as you might expect, very very useful to these people so they don't have to break "the mood" if you will, to enter their cars.  I salute the DDO team for embracing this type of conceptual framework in their designs.
