From last night's extension message more information was promised for this (Friday) morning.

Has hair-lip Jerry shared that info?

He (she?) did a short stream a couple hours ago. Hardware issues with the data center move and problems with authentication with the login server....blah blah

15 minutes in. ZOMG THE CORRECTED THE POLARITY.

Fun Fact: The data center move isn't SSG operated at all, isn't happening in Boston, and is all third party work. Take a guess at who that third party is. If you want to get salty about the downtime, at least be salty about the correct people.

Of course it's not SSG/Turbine's fault.

Nothing is their fault.  The players/peasants don't understand the realities of the unique environment in which SSG/Turbine operates.

It's complete coincidence and entirely outside of SSG/Turbine's control that this shit is normal for them.

My guess is that Rubbinns is the third party.

The root domains are still off line.  Don't expect anything to work at least until DDO.Com or 198.252.160.57 are alive, and probably not for some time after that.

Code
Select All

Any recommendations for a decent f2p MMO on the lower end of the graphics card spectrum?

EverQuest and EverQuest 2, with original EQ being VERY light on graphics.

Meursault wrote on Mar 8th, 2019 at 2:25pm:
On a guild mate's suggestion, we're giving Guild Wars 2 a try this weekend, it's F2P for the core game now, and has some great reviews. I hear it's a bit hard on graphics cards, though, so definitely check out minimum system requirements before you download it.

We settled on that because it's family friendly (supposedly mostly), has great story and visuals, active combat, scales levels so you can party with lower level friends, auto-grants/completes quests so you don't have to run back and forth to Baudry Cartmon, has an auction house that spans servers, has inventory control that provides unlimited storage for ingredients, collectibles, and currency without having to travel to a bank, and no stat items in the microtransaction store.

I'm not sure if my sources are 100% right on all of that, but even if they're only mostly right is sounds worth it. We're going to give it a shot this weekend. Supposedly you can play a couple hundred hours before running out of the free content.

I also love Path of Exile, totally free and a fantastic game, but it's dark and gory, a Diablo clone not Baldurs Gate. It's not too bad on resources, but a bit more than DDO. I can run 5 instances of DDO before I notice any performance degradation, but only 2 PoE (and I haven't done that in quite a while, it may be worse now).

I didn't find quildwars grabbed me that much, but it can most likely keep you entertained for a weekend. I suppose I should probably give it another chance.

Have any tips for multi-boxing DDO?

Just watched hair-lip Jerry on Lotro live stream.....

"Contractor's have been brought in" ...

"Hardware issues"...Not in SSG hands....whatever.

"Cabling issues" - Are you fucking kidding me?

"Forcing SSG employees to take rest breaks - 4 hour sleep breaks."  - Oh Poor bastards....they are salaried and won't get a dime from you cheap fuckers.

"VIP - extensions for lost time"....

Fuck me - why did I re-install this fucking game after a 7 month break?

At this point - I will be shocked to have access by end of day Monday...Shocked.

I played GW2 for a bit when it first came out.  It's fine, I guess.  But I never really liked it.  Felt like there were too many limitations in active combat and the character building and progression was just bland.

I recall they do non-instanced encounters as well, which I'm not a fan of.

It does have nice graphics and if you like PvP and WvWvW type of stuff then I think that's a plus.  Personally, I'm not into the Battle Royale or PvP stuff.  But there is probably a decent amount of PvE content as well.  it has been out for what, 7 years now?

Balance is more difficult.  And if the game does PvP, balance is more critical than in a purely PvE environment.

I tend to reject pvp games because it means the developers are making balance decisions based on pvp, and it leaves the game inherently limiting(try Archeage, where there is literally 1 viable build because of the huge advantage it has in pvp).

But I've heard two different things about guild wars: one side insists the pvp is optional, no big deal, and doesn't affect gameplay for non pvpers. Others insist the game is all about pvp and to not even install it if you arent going to live, breath, and eat pvp.

I'm frankly not sure who to listen to.
