OK, I’ll be the noob and ask. How do you get numbers that high with a sorc?  In heroics my sorcs are clearing rooms as fast as they can chug duped mana pots, but in epics when I drop a chained lightning it’s like I dropped the prison supplied soap and my toon gets gang raped. 

I know, I’m not smart, not creative, and most likely missing something obvious. What’s new?

It obviously depends on your DC. If you don't have it you are beyond useless. Also spellpower, as a nuker you want to hit HARD

There are many tricks  such as mass hold + energy burst for groups

if you have a party (or even solo in some circumstances) drop a solid fog as it gives a -5 reflex, for players it's peanuts but for monsters it's a nice debuff that will help you land most evocation spells

Not saying anything about necro as it kills opponents outright without resorting to "big numbers"

Another nice trick you can use (one of my favorites) is elemental weakness + vulnerability on raid bosses. Careful cause you will pull a LOT of aggro as you'll deal monstrous damage so using it sparingly if unless someone can keep the baddie away from you

If you don't want to be gang raped by monsters analyze the situations first, you're supposed to have played that quest gazillions of times so you already know where monsters are. First you drop a disco ball/web/mass hold, whatever cc will stop enemies in their track and only then you attack (unless you're so powah you can annihilate everything instantly)


I'm confident someone else will give you even better tips.

Helpless twist for the trash, ash + vacuum + sorc vulnerability + LGS crit multiplier gear + Crit chance gear ( Sharn sets and Spiral buff ). The rest is DC and spell power.

I think the best advice for epics is...stop using chain lightning.  Switch over to fire sorc after hitting level 9 spells and go Meteor Swarm and Delayed Blast Fireball as your 1-2 punch.  They will both hit much harder than ball lightning / chain lightning combo.

As for getting screenshot hits, you're stacking debuffs and using a ED skill that has a 30 second cooldown.  As an alternative, you can throw out MS, DBF, MS, DBF while jump casting and you'll do just as much damage in about the same amount of time, not have the cooldown wait, not have to be in close range (EB is PBAOE) but you won't get a "+dick size" screenshot.

Chasing screenshot / video numbers is just an exercise in frustration.  There's no one button you can push to hit for 180k.

So on live avg sorc damage with  breath and burst is around 60k before debuffs. Nongimped helpless damage will be around 100, and no, you wont debuff trash. I wouldnt talk about trash at all, cause, you know, its instakilable. Now, with the sorc stuff on you do around 75k on bosses with slas, 25-30 with with meteor (analogs slightly harder) and 12-15 with fireball like. On some builds can trade crit chance but win damage by ~15%. Keep in mind there is global coolsown so your avg spell damage is your dps. And what do we have? Sorcs still are somewhere arouns 30k max with all the debuffs plus dependent on SP. For me it feels like sorcs on the place where they need to be right now. Especially when building CC on sorc became harder cause of mob saves against spells and most evo cc not working against machines and undead. Sorc became stupidly powerful on elite and lower skulls yet still reqire a good build with good DCs, spellpower, crits and other stuff. I wouldnt call either sorc or inqusitive OP, melee dps still beat those numbers. Just many other builds, classes and trees are gimp.

Not even close during NHB activations. 92k in r10 Bruntsmash. 50 or 60k in SD in same setting. Melee in SD isn't getting that burst. Nor in LD. Symb recorded a low 40s on wolf for r10 Brunts.

Sustained dps is still adequate enough to supplement the bursts, and enable it to keep up a high pace.

There are some videos of r10 completions using bard bot for buff and HoT. Handful of quests on that channel of r10 done that way.

THTH: Forgewraiths utilize the kobold jump script.  If you've ever played melee, you know how extremely annoying it is to DPS a forgewraith.  And what the hell is up with the Titan's tiny hitbox?  I have to position myself like I'm about to drop off into the lava in order to melee.  I have high confidence that most melee players don't even know they swinging at air instead of damaging the Titan.  It's poor design, like the frustratingly tiny buttons on the PN control box.

PN: Two bosses can't be DPS'd by melee.  It's trivial for ranged to blast constructors across the room.  Battery rooms have two circles pop every three seconds, which severely constricts melee DPS.  Ranged can DPS full blast while strafing out of the circle.  And let's not forget the air battery room debacle as a melee...

My raid geared melee is sidelined doing past lives while my Inquisitive hoovers up runes and threads.  The meta pendulum swung too far away from melee.

Forgewraiths are cancer

And for the Titan, best way to make sure you’re hitting him is to have your d20 right in the middle of the screen. SSG really should figure out a better scaling idea to show that you’re doing damage to an enemy, because the current one is just absolute shit. Also, yea lag + trying to get into Titan hitbox has caused me to fall off more times than I would really like.

PN is a whole nother level of anti melee though. The continuously spawning circles in the batteries basically mean that if you want to melee an Elle you need a tank to grab agro in the room. And as you go past r1 it really becomes even worse for melee as far as the bosses are concerned. Gish’s whirlwind is an absolute nightmare to melee, though he at least gives a solid 1.5-2s warning. Rudus is just rudus. And same goes for irk.

The whole raid (and sharn in general) feels like Lynn was “trying to come up with some fun ideas to make things interesting”. But because the devs are dumber than a sack of smashed assholes it really just evolved into every anti-melee tactic ever created.

And don’t forget the absolute absurd number of safe spots (for ranged) in sharn quests. From Lost at Sea, to A sharn Welcome, to Blown Deadlines, Just Buissness.... red rain. It’s kinda fucking sad to be honest, and it really reduces the quality of the gameplay when half the quests can be safe spotted if you’re ranged.

This feels a bit false. Both bosses can be DPS'd by a melee, I'd argue that while jumping to hit Irk is a bit irksome you can at the very least beat on Zulkis to prep him for the ranged DPS to kill him.

I see your points and I do agree that melee supposed to be more ressilent or more destructive (or both) than ranged. Still, IMO its not the issue of sorcs and ranged build, just bad balance of game overall. In my opinion in a hands of good player with toon strong enough and with good builds player supposed to solo r10 several quests, thats fine. The issue is that mosts builds just too weak.
