How are you liking melee post-45?

It's been a minute since U45 came out and made lots of melee changes. I haven't touched a melee life in months when I did a few THF Wolf lives. How are melee-enthusiasts enjoying melee now? I know that melee isn't going to mow down crowds of trash the same way that AOE casters do, but is Heroic and Epic leveling fun and fast enough to be satisfying with the strikethrough and Cleave changes?

Started working on my THF Half-Orc Barb this weekend. I'm at 6th level and have noticed that Strikethrough does help.

Still too early to give a full review, yet.

I forgot to mention my PDK Vanguard with Bastard Sword and THF feats also seems to be quite strong. I got him up to 29th level.

The defensive issues are still significant in higher content.

Running a swf artificer and, even with low strike through, it is very possible to stun and trip multiple enemies quite easily.

Once I'm done farming stuff for lowbie alts I will totally TR into a THF Horc barbarian.

Shield fighting feels quite weak though but that might be me since I'm only getting into it now. In my opinion the trade off for dps versus prr gain is nowhere good enough, and I'm using a bloody tower shield. I don't know, I blame my lack of experience with this style

My PDK Paladin Vanguard uses The Legendary Best Defense. If you're at all concerned about DPS loss, this is the shield for you.

This is the problem.

They nerfed twf and killed 2-3 end game builds and since pally have the higher defenses it is now the only option for end game.

Every update turdbin kills more and more parts of this game.

Dear players,

The D&D rules you were familiar with were too simple to understand, so we're continuing our move away from them to needlessly confusing subsystems that will make your play experience less fun and invalidate old builds and loot. We hope you have fun working out what the fuck MRR, PRR, MP, SP, RP, CL, MCL and all the other bullshit we made up whilst drunk means.

The changes to KOTC and THF have done a bit for pally builds.  I'm getting strikethrough on 2 and 3 targets with smites.  Never got that with smites before.  Its kinda nice.

Pally still lags in DPS but defensive features seem to be pretty good.

I’m with Junk, Melee is pretty strong. It gets really strong if you have a good healer with you.

Dwarven Pali - Top Tier Killer
Bear Silvanus  - Top Tier Killer

Next up on my list of builds to try this month:

PDK Pali Silvanus
Max cleave/strike through build

Strikethrough is seriously noticeable at lower levels. I haven't played a melee over 20 since the changes.

I think the question is optimal Strikethrough to attack speed? Also without ignoring defense. Some enhancements like the FB and racials to Strikethrough require the THF feat. KotC and TA can get less but don't require the feat. B-Word Sword and Dorf Axe have more costly enhancements that come in smaller increments but also don't require a feat.

For the girl who wants to have it all, I'm going to guess THF feat line, KotC for Improved Second Strikes, Dorf for a little more Strikethrough, Vanguard for 2/3 of SWF attack speed at 20, and Defender Stance for survivability.

Bear, I don't even know. It says "All basic attacks Strikethrough," but it doesn't show up on the character sheet. It's definitely working, but I don't know if it is like a free +100% Strikethrough or what. Dire Bear says you get another 20%, smh. Haven't had a bear over level 8 yet. I feel like they put in the feat requirement on FB just to make sure you have to pay a feat tax to get the enhancement Strikethrough on a bear.

We need to be able to put the training dummies nearly on top of each other to test Strikethrough.

I think twitching is dead, would love to know if that's actually the case.

I highly recommend playing to cap, gearing up and actually playing. If you like playing melee, you'll find something you like.

Or you can theory craft and listen to people whine on the forums.

I'm playing on HC right now and I'm a shit player so that's why I'm not at cap. But even if I wasn't I would definitely still do the rest.

Alright I'm going to go fuck with this. I got pretty okay-ish when a centered greatsword was the greatest thing going. What was that fucker's name? Cleetus? Haven't done THF past Korthos in a long minute.

Give it a shot when you get back from HC. I never thought they would fix THF, but I'm pretty happy with the strikethrough concept.

Glad that the kitey squishy inqui pandemic is over.

Pally and barb is nice, tempest solid as ever, shintao still the best melee (imo) in the good hands.

Thf changes are cool, just the hitboxes kinda suck with some animations.

Much better game now that you see some "classic" melees.
But I play pretty much with static r10 group.
Turned my inquis into asassin and thf pally respectively.

The THF animation changes they made to Mauls annoyed me. They looked like shit imo so I tr'd a toon out of that. I ended up LRing an old stick build that had been sitting and I like the changes Strikethrough made. It plays reasonably well but that style has never been top end dps but it got a decent boost based on my recollection of when I was playing it seriously.

It's more than an acceptable flavor build really but I wouldn't drag it into an R10.

The animation changes for Falchion/Great sword were ok ad I don't mind those too much, haven't looked at G.Axe yet though.

I was on a g-axe barb life for a good month before the update dropped. I was having fun at cap and definitely contributed to the party (though I was also visage of terror build, so obvious I had value outside of smacking things).

After the update went live I felt like the combination of the new animations and the strikethrough deal was an immediate nerf to the build. Don't get me wrong I think strikethrough is an improvement over all for THF.

But the animations cause you to lose DPS with certain weapons based on my experience.
