Someone at SSG deleted this guy's character. Whether it was an accident or malice we will never know, but the character got erased.

DDO's legendarily-shitty customer service didn't fix it. The equally legendarily shitty(and fat) jerry fucked the situation until it got even worse.

And the end result is a very popular/well-liked player quite the game in disgust.

The community support was overwhelming. The response from SSG was... "go fuck yourself".

TL:DR version: SSG shit the bed again and slept in it several nights.

There's a plethora of reasons or ways this might of occurred. My personal bet is Fire was drunk and deleted his toon himself.

Alternative is that Fire finally got caught for being naughty years later.

There's a bug that allows players to accidentally log in other player's accounts and characters.
You figure out the rest...

Nobody knows what really happened.  What Fire describes makes no sense.

It sounds like he got back all PLs and Reaper Points and tomes etc.   the loss was the TR cache.   Which they have been clear in the past is stored in such a way that it is not searchable or recoverable.  It has long been a risky and concerning methodology.    I hope they move forward with any number of suggestions that eliminate the TR Cache as a concept so that these kinds of losses stop happening (whether it is something like this or something like the old TR cache lost on TR issue).   We don’t need to lose players over the TR cache being a technical problem in resolving customer support problems.

The cache might not be searchable or recoverable, but it takes all of 30 seconds for a game master to spawn an item and mail it to you. Yeah they can't do that for every item or for every player who suffers a cache-lose; but when you have something high-profile(EG someone with a high social standing), it makes good business-sense to have one of your grunts go fix it manually.

I've been working in customer service for years, and I can tell you: it is not the big customers that get special treatment, its the high-profile ones.

The deletion happened while the player was actively online playing on a different character.

So that would mean someone randomly got logged in to this player's account while that person was themselves logged in. Not impossible. But then that would also mean the vandal decided to delete the best character on the account, fuck around for 2 more hours, then re-create the character as a lvl 1. And in the 2 hours they spent dicking around, they didn't delete or steal anything else.

Still not impossible.

But even if that's what happened, it is STILL on SSG to fix it, and with something that nasty it needed to be fixed FAST. Like how fast they nerfed horses.

I'm not arguing about how they should or shouldn't address Fire's specific situation.

I'm saying:

You can keep having problems with the TR Cache and then having upset customers and having to deal with customer service issues reactively and eat up a lot of time and effort and have hurt feelings in your player base.

OR

You can proactively eliminate the TR Cache as a concept and replace it with a personal bank that uses the shared bank interface and gives everyone enough slots to store what was in the TR cache and not have to deal with these issues anymore.

To me, proactively fixing what has been a recurring thorn in the side of SSG and the players would be the best choice.

Character deletion is fully reversible, well except Guild info, mail, auctioned items and bids, and REINCARNATION CACHE.

But still all the past lives, reaper points etc. Every item in game can be farmed again Wink not that big loss imo with the cache.

https://help.standingstonegames.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000046928-DDO-Character
-Undelete

(even if you create new character with same name already)

What actually happened is someone SSG fucktard was trying his ever first SQL queries with live database, and that is not easily reversible (backup + IID's fixing + remote keys etc.)

A.K.A. : The option SSG has clearly chosen.

Clearly the best choice, but not possible because something something mumble failure.

I wouldn't even really take that much, about double current bank space. So many options.

So much fucktardery.

You go ahead and start farming that EROSS again.

We'll wait.

Iirc he used the ottos trick for a good chunk of his initial reaper points.

It's actually what I assumed his toon got deleted for.

Sure the rest he's farmed over time, but I definitely remember him being well ahead of the rest of Sarlona out of no where during the initial Reaper launch.

Shit, you could use an Otto's to get Reaper points? Damn, I missed out on a ton of good stuff.

I like female characters more. it's the pretty hair. and if i wanted to live out a fantasy of being a big strong sexy male with a large sword, I would just go outside
