DPS "Bear" Build

Print Post
I can't seem to find an official one. So, I'm making my own.

Bones will be STR-Based PDK

11 Barb for DPS, 6 Cleric for Maul, animal domain, and DM, 3 Druid for base bear.

ENH: t5 Frenzy B and some Ravager and OS
Cleric for DM
Druid for low-hanging stuff

PDK

PDK for Maul. I looked at other options. The question is whether the Maul goodness is better than STR and Rage from Horc. I imagine it's closeish. Horc might still come out ahead, though tbh.

I have Tremor. I don't have Tail. So...Maul it is.

Feats:

NWF X3
PA
Stun Blow
Emp Healing
Quicken?
Toughness?

O.Crit
Blinding Speed
EPIC DR?
EPIC TOUGH?

PTWF
Dire Charge
Tactician (supposedly pTHF doesn't work for bears?)

Scion of Arborea

I recorded all my Pally Stats, so I can compare. Ended up with boosted, self-buffed dps of about 21.5k based on R5 Bruntsmash. We'll see what bear can do.

With racial lives, aasimar scourge is nice for ghost touch, 5%doublestrike, healing amp, and lay on hands. Ghost touch is nice cause it let's you completely replace celestial ruby ring, using the thth helm for accuracy, sunken chains for stunning, and for some reason ghostly is a bit hard to find, but PDK is also fine

I literally saw this when you posted it, and then I promptly forgot. Thank you for the reminder! It helps for feats and gear. I'm glad I saw that both NWF and THF line matter too.

Also, there's nothing wrong with being a Tronko fan girl. Sign me up.

I have no imagination, so I have to ask. How does 6 cleric help with Maul?  I assume you're talking about the druid spell Maul.

Heh. No. I'm talking about that Forgotten Realms races (PDK, Shadarkai, Scourge, Gnome, and maybe one other?) have access to the Faerun deity Silvanus. His favored weapon is Maul and followers with 6 levels get access to "Favored by Silvanus" which is an active stance kind of thing that adds +2 to the threat range of Mauls.

In other words, you crit lots more with a maul. Aka DPS.

It gives a maul the best overall crit profile in the game (I think?)

Minor suggestions. Get just 2hf. Get other feats  instead of improved and greater. Trade is 2 fears plus some AP for 20 strike through.

Consider str domain over animal domain. Your saves suuuuuuuck as a bearbarian, and this will let you get str to reflex and some more str vs a bunch of HP. food for though

You're still mad at me. You should probably go back and read the thread that triggered you. I'm 88.2% sure it wasn't what you assumed.

In any case, having TRed into the bear and trying it out a little, I can see how dumb the Emp Heal and Quicken are. 3 levels of Bear+rage+spells are a pain in the butt...

And Shifter will mean you won’t have to pay for a +1 LR to make it happen.

Shifter is specifically an Eberron race, so no silvanus option there.

I think its funny how the core group of people who discuss builds mostly just spend all their energy finding creative new ways to call each other stupid.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. Just that I think its funny.

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

I got a 12 second Bruntsmash test on R5 with the bear. One hit of suffer first. Then unbridled fury with tremor spamming crazy strike, war priest smite, and adrenaline .

That was all short-term buffs up.

Keeping all the buffs, and clickies with rage is a total pain.. I might leave the build just for the inconvenience..

Shit. I see now that it starts in Sharn. I thought they were going with their weird “all iconics start in the forgotten Realms” thing for some reason.

I don’t even think that Shifter would be the best race for this - just that it would be cheaper.

If you want to go pure and have less clickies, go paladin.

I wonder how a STR Pally in Fury would do. This bear is better burst than Cha Pally for sure. I saw a 64k crit last night. That was NOT a debuffed raid boss. That was a trash mob in a quest. I think it was R1 Curse the Sky. I can't remember.

But, I'm comparing apples and oranges. Pally was Blackrazor in FS vs Silvanus Maul in Fury. So, lots of differences.

All I know is the bear has more HP and higher overall DPS. BUT, the self-healing is annoying, and there are too many short-term buffs imo.

I know "self-healing" isn't a thing in R10. I get it. But, I still do low-skull solo gear runs and such where I like to self-heal. I guess I can bring a hire. :/

Best crit I ever saw on the pally on non-debuffed trash was probably like 20k. TOPS.
