Daybreak Games sold to EG7

Not sure who or what EG7 is, but Daybreak has been bought out.

https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/520173-Daybreak-Acquisition-News-and-S...

From Sev:

Greetings! As our players have read, Enad Global 7 (EG7) entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in Daybreak Game Company today. We are excited about EG7 and we welcome them into our family. We are also excited to be part of such a great collaboration. We just wanted to let our players know that this will have no impact on the development of Dungeons and Dragons Online, The Lord of the Rings Online, and operations for us at Standing Stone Games. Our teams are working as hard as always to bring new and exciting things to our games in the months and years to come.

We've been encouraged by your support this year, and we're hard at work planning 2021 and beyond. We'll have a more forward-looking Producer's Letter in the new year, and that is where we'll talk about our next classic pack, a new event, and a whole lot more.

From everyone at Standing Stone Games, we wish you and yours well throughout this season of holidays around the world.

Crazy. Maybe EG7 will be better? Daybroke certainly never helped.

Some digging says daybrok was somehow worth USD 300 million USD and EG7 paid in a cash. EG7 is based out of Sweden.

I don't think there's anything more to read into this other than "one company bought another". As long as DDO stays profitable it'll keep running.

Side-note: fuck not being able to edit.

Anyway, this seems to further support that SSG is not an independent company and simply owned by daybroke. Way to represent yourselves, SSG.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuup.

Love how SSG perpetuates the myth that they are "in a partnership" with daybroke, or that daybroke is "just the publisher" when every indication seems to be daybroke holds all the purse strings.

Well, now EG7. Though, like I said: as long as DDO brings home the bacon.

So from this presentation it clearly sates that SSG's ass is owned by Daybroke.

Bitch ass nigga Severlin told that there will be no impact on development on LOTRO/DDO, but there's an upgrade planned for LOTRO in 2022.

Lot of interesting data in that EG7 presentation.  Like slides 12, 15, and 28 which clearly delineate the relationship between SSG and Daybreak.

My take aways:

Daybreak owns at least a majority stake of SSG.

Both DDO and LOTRO are profitable.

Interesting that LOTRO has double the subscribers but only about 40% more revenue.  Clearly, DDO players spend more on the game, pre player.

Always thought we had a great player base compared to other MMO's.

This EG7 company appears to be doing the Private Equity vertical consolidator model.   I've seen that in a number of tech industries lately.  Lots of cash being thrown around at high multiples.

I thought DDO is in much rougher state than it is.

22k subs and 40k monthly users does seem to be decent for this game.

if you do the math on that and assume an average monthly price of $12 US (average of the tiers) then you get $3,168,000  annualized revenue from subs.   If that number they posted is thru 3rd quarter, then they do about $10,000,000 annually.   So subs are just over 30% of their revenue.  The rest is going to be expansions and points purchases.  I'd bet those numbers did not include the Feywild expansion revenue numbers.   It didn't go on sale until 4th quarter.

No that sounds about right. Pretty sure I average out to that much when I'm really actively playing(despite having sworn several times to never spend another time on this game...)

That does show the game as MUCH healthier than we thought. The data from playeraudit presents a much smaller active user picture, but if there's 22k subsrcribers and 40k unique logins thats a lot better.

Well, it's a common enough refrain. "This game is dead" etc..

Anyway, this is nice to see. It'll be around a while.

small line on page 15 :
1) YTD Bookings as of September 30 2020,
2) as of September 2020. Memberrs defined as customers who have purchases a monthly membership

Now DDO having the best ARPU well above the two Everquest and LoTRO is a fucking surprise.
But it explain why they haven't killed it despite all our doom and gloom ... it's the Golden Goose.

One thing DDO might be able to capitalize on is the 2022 LoTRO upgrade :
Quote:
planning visual and technical updates for LoTRO for PC and nextgen consoles to capitalize on Amazon's highlt publicized large investment in LoTR TV Series

Since both DDO and LoTRO share the same game engine... getting the same update would dilute the cost between the two games instead of putting in on one game.

now : https://www.investing.com/equities/toadman-interactive-company-profile

apparently Enad Global 7 is also known as Toadman Interractive and while it's registered in Stockholm it doesn't appears to be easy to acquire shares. Now there's several funds in the sharholder list, so it must be possible to get some shares.  ( https://www.enadglobal7.com/the-share/ )

Would a graphical update help with the lag?

IMO DDO's graphics are fine. Aside from several horrifically ugly character designs that are ugly because someone delibrately designed them badly, the graphics are still pretty solid.

HOW do people spend $65/mo on this game?
I know some people spend a more money when Hard Core starts up, but how the hell does someone who has played for 3+ years spend that each month?

Obviously they don't spend exactly $65 every month, that's aggregate over the course of the entire year. Figure $15/m for sub, then the rest is just 6x$99 points packs. It is not that tough at all to use up that many points per year.

Let them. They pay for your game.

But back to the OP - Daybreak was doing shit in terms of publishing.
1. They didn't bother to run commercial campaigns to promote DDO.
2. They removed lot of paying options (Subway cards, pay by phone in lot of countries, bank transfers etc) so less revenue. (this was also WB fault)
3. They switched to 3'rd party store solutions (Xolla, Old ddo market) and pays them a huge chunk of revenue (like 20%?) instead of keeping their own (old DDOstore, new Market).

How they even float above?

I still think its impossible for that number to be accurate.  Unless its like a drunk guy throwing his paycheck at his favorite stripper, I dont see how THAT many people could be spending THAT much money each month.

I think of how many people on Orien I know, how many alt accounts there are, and how many of them come close to paying $65 month.  Of all those people I run with, and talk to, only one might be spending that cash.  Is there a Platinum Server that they hang out on, to stay away from us F2P riff-raff?

Dunno, but that number feels way off, to me.

Who is “they”?   I never saw anyone at ssg say anything that suggested “the game was dying”.  That’s only ever come from players.   Unless you have a quote?

I recall once or twice Lynnabel stating the game was doing great.   But he’s the only dev I’ve even seen comment in writing.  And that was a generic superlative.
