Just stumbled across this investor Presentation, that has some interesting info on pages 15 through 18 on DDO's player base, including breakdowns of age and earnings.

With these astonishing good figures it's nothing than a shame that there is still a lag problem.
This is a "throw money at it and it goes away" issue, therefore: stupid stingy idiots.

This information is months old. I'd be curious to see where it is now.

I’m sure the pandemic was very good for their business.  As the economy grows and restrictions lessen  I’d expect that the numbers will dip.   I know my game time has because I’ve been busier and busier in the last 4 months.

Was it spoken about here before? If so I missed it & have yet to see a better source for this info.

yes it was. The whole thing was linked to and discussed intensively when it first hit. I mean, we here at the Vault don't claim to be financial geniuses, but it was an interesting discussion. We are all quite shocked that despite being the red-headed step-child of Standing Stone Games, DDO appears to be more profitable than LOTRO. If you look at the LOTRO community, they are treated with WAY less hostility than those of us who like dragons in our dungeons(pun unapologetically intended).

It is still an interesting read. Much discussion was made as to how EG7 plans to monetize these purchases over the long term. Obviously pump-and-dump is out, I say they are trying to control as much of the market as they can for smaller MMOs.

Yes it's from when they announced that enad global 7 was buying Daybreak... and that when we got the official confirmation that SSG was fully owned by Daybreak ( despite all the denials by Sev and Jerry ).

Indeed which suggests it's the same players who stay and play.  It's

Actually the EG7 announcement proved that Playeraudit's numbers were very inaccurate. I don't mean to besmirch the good work that the guys over at player audit are doing, but their numbers even back then were coming in at something like 1/10th of what was reflected in the official announcement. And I know your gut reaction is "the numbers in the announcement must be fake!" but ask yourself: why would EG7 lie? You know they are going to have verified those numbers.

Playeraudit's numbers are pretty good.  All you have to do is log in during prime time and count the number of people of logged in on the "who is on" tab.  Then extrapolate.

EG7 was likely fed baked numbers by Daybreak/SSG.

Yes.

playeraudit's numbers come directly from the game itself.

And SSG numbers probably came form the logs and all the other means they have to look at those KPIs.

Instead of WAGs from people loging into the game and looking at the number of peopple that appears ( some still love the anonymous status )

Anyway, both sets of numbers are probably tinkered with to feed the relevant ego of the relevant public.

It has already been established that playeraudit counts anon players.

Also, I'm not really sure why both numbers can't be correct. That document puts DDO at 46k MAU (which I still think it's inflated as hell but whatever) and playaudit shows 370,661 unique characters over the last quarter. Assuming the average player runs 3 toons, 46k * 3 toons * 3 months = 414k unique characters. It's not that far off.

Unique characters is a completely meaningless metric. I have 36 unique characters. When I'm searching for something on one of my mules I will log in to all 36 of them in the space of an hour.

1/10th? Sorry, but do you honestly believe that there are something like 4000 players on Argo right now? 20,000 across all worlds? Not sure if we're playing the same game.

Yes, it's just as meaningless as MAUs from a player's standpoint. Way more important are concurrent users, which is what playeraudit reports on.

We're talking about a multi-million dollar acquisition here. EG7 is going to have had those figures independantly verified, not just accepted whatever shit SSG tried to feed them.

So what is more likely: a multi-national corporation that buys MMOs based on player data fell for a bad number? OR - a program built by some enthusiasts in their spare time doesn't necessarily have access to all the information?

Actually monthly active users is way more valuable than concurrent users.

For a business, sure. But what's more important to you?

1. 2 million MAU. There are 6 people online when you play.
2. 10k MAU. There are 700 people online when you play.
