Are you going to shell out $40 for it in the market? Wait for a sale 1 year later and buy it it in the market for $20-30? Buy it for 4k DDO points when it becomes available in the store?

I got most of my expansions with store points because I hate the idea of giving them any more money, but at 4k DDO points, i don't know if that makes sense anymore. It will also probably contain some ridiculous power creep to force you to buy it ASAP.

Haven't spent actual money on this game in years. Not going to start now.

Have almost 9K favor points, so probably for points, idk.

This raises an interesting theory.

When a person buy "DDO points", SSG collects the money, but they cannot "realize" the profit until the player redeems the points. That means if you buy $100 in points and then quit playing, SSG doesn't get that $100.

Now enter favor points.

If the profits are being "realized"(recorded) when points are redeemed instead of when they are purchased, perhaps we've uncovered how SSG is cooking the books. They can't tell the difference between bought points and earned points, so the inexplicable high profits aren't real.

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

I suggest you call Xsolla and ask them how "your game" can make use of their services to get an idea of how silly what you said is...

That's...not how anything works.  Have you never been in an amusement park that makes it's own money but still charges real money?  You walking away with a made up currency in your pockets unspent is a huge win for them.

Selling you ddo points and limiting what you can spend them on while still hitting you for RL cash is shady and sleazy, but it obviously makes them money.

I just buy the best thing straight away with real money.  My Pleasure and my convenience, right now, trump everything else.

Wait a year for a sale?  That's for like people who can't afford tp or who choose not to indulge themselves.

When a person buys the points SSG realise that profit straight away. Later if/when you spend the point SSG provide you with no-cost-to-them digital goods. I don't thik you understand how this works.

Putting aside how they fucked up my ability to buy stuff, in the past I always used to buy the highest amount pack as a way of supporting the game. As much as the developers are dick heads, I wanted the game to be around

Agree with others.  Not how that works at all with regard to GAAP.

On topic, I paid for the pre-order.  Even the worst expansion (Shadowfell) has yielded a play hours to price ratio that is lower than most other forms of entertainment.

While this is true the problem with the offerings was never the price but the value compared to pretty much every game in existence. Ff you only play DDO sure its fine but $140 for 12 quests a raid and some digital goods is frankly awful.

I bought it. First expansion since the shite that was Shadowfell. Mainly because I was planning on getting the hearts at some point so it didn't cost much more to get the rest.

Meh.  Most collector's editions are similar.  Elden Ring is $225 USD.  Now that includes a book and and a statute.  So hard goods.  But The price is also $85 higher.

In my experience the gameplay time in an expansion in DDO is in line with how long I would be in Kingmaker or Wrath of the Righteous or Elden Ring.  And my price point is similar.

I disagree, but ymmv.  How you define value may be different.

You can't really compare single player RPG content to MMO content.   Apples and Oranges.  But an expansion release is generally equivalent to a AAA title release.  At least to my thinking.  Either yields 250-500 hours of gameplay.

What kills me is that you probably have no fucking idea what a normal map even is, and yet you preach authoritatively that the work they do compares to an AAA release.

First of all, the closest thing to AAA the game has is the fucking battery the server runs out of every now and again.

Second of, my bad, you weren't noamineo but holy shit you must be his sock to write such comments XD

In today's day and age someone like me, managing a team of 5 decent people who somewhat know their shit, would be able to complete a whole new expansion with voice acting, character acting (mocap) scenes, and 30 new levels that the game calls "very long" in about a month and a half. If you want to throw in a new class where you want the motion not to look completely retarded add 2 weeks to make it an even 2 months.

That's 6 people for 2 months in terms of how much it costs them to get it done.

Now compare what they ask for, $129
To what an AAA game that's actually well made and took a team of 20 to make over one or more years at release. Which is almost never more than $60.

And tell us again how their pricing isn't just ripping fucking people, investors, players, *and developers* off...

No you are clearly blinkered if you think 12 quests and a raid is the equivalent to a AAA release. So you are going to spend about 20 hours in each quest? thats a lot of repetition - you could play a single rpg multiple times too if you want we tend not to as there are better gameplay experiences than endless repetition.

Its cool that the expansion is worth it to you but dont lose sight of the fact it really is objectively a poor value proposition. SSG get some slack for being a small team but the money they make from these expansions is massive.
