WTF kinda datacenter is this?  And who lets clients do BIOS updates?

Didn't we figure out a while ago that DDO is hosted at a colocation on leased equipment? So when Cordo says "we" what he means is "the shitty company who won the low bid".

That said bios updates do not take long. So most likely what the colocation told Cordo flew WAY over his head so he decided to just make something up.

I'm sure the tech at the other end said BIOS because he knew the abysmal level of competency of Jerry... And didn't want to waste 10 minutes trying o explain that routers, switches, firewalls, RAID storages, etc... all have a firmware that have to be updated from time to time...
